Keep in mind that the cap is flat, and will likely remain this way next season. We can be one of 2 or 3 teams prepared to spend next season. Toffoli would have been great for a 1 year overpayment, but he wanted term and I am happy to pass on that contract. He is terribly inconsistent, and inking him until he is 32 would not be my first choice.
If Vats signs in Colorado, lets target Gustafsson. - bikeguy99
I don't think it's a bad contract and 28 to 32 isn't usually the big drop off years. I mean nobody's perfect but Toffoli is a pretty good player and the cost is pretty flat with his previous contract.

Seems odd that Montreal gave money and term to an unknown in Anderson though. I think the Toffoli signing is great for them, but they could have just gotten Hall instead. I feel like they wanted to get the "most" of the Domi trade but still lost value there anyway.
But out of their 3 RFA's hes by far the most likely to be moved. Nobody is helping them out without a legit sweetener, he's likely gonna be that sweetener if they arent giving up a 1st - vlongo4419
Yeah, that makes sense. Their cap situation is so (frank)ed what can they really do. $20 mil spent on Gourde, Palat, Johnson, and Killorn. |

I understand why we didn't trade for Devon Toews but two late 2nds for him seems like an under payment. Maybe we don't have the resources to get that kind of player but man it would have been nice. |

Avs absolutely won that trade but it was a cap dump for the isles, teams arent going to get full value in a lot of these trades as we've seen already with our trades |

They can't bury Johnson's cap in the minors since he cleared waivers?
move guys around as you wish, but this top 6 would be very nice, and the fact that the worst player will be gone after the following season is even nicer.
Smith-Severson
Murray-Cernak (damn that's good)

They changed those rules. You only get a percentage cap relief up to a certain point now. I believe if they buried Johnson they would only get a $1mil cap relief. |

We can probably thank the Rangers for that for burying Wade Redden for like 4-5 years straight lol |

Good for them. Why would we need another PP specialist who cant defend? We're gonna have essentially 4 of that type of player already in Severson, PK, Butcher, and Smith |

I was just saying he’s signed. It wasn’t an endorsement. Bikeguy99 mentioned him earlier as a possible add so Just sharing info. |

Vernal remains the prize. I just can't imagine Tampa doesn't find a way to bring back both dman. |

Schmidt to the Canucks for a 2020 3rd. Decent add for the canucks who have seemingly lost everybody this free agency, that contract is gonna suck in few years though |

They've lost all of their promising young players because they signed a ton of bottom six forwards to 3+mil contracts. Pretty sad, honestly. |

Yep thats what happens when you just spend money in free agency to spend, for absolutely no reason. |

And they have cap issues so they trade for Nate Schmidt...? I don't understand. |

They had cap issues so they lost Markstrom, Tanev, Stetcher, and Toffoli. Now after the Schmidt trade only have 2M in cap space to sign multiple RFAs, then will only have 17M in cap space next season with Pettersson, Hughes, and Demko to re-sign and will still need to fill out roster spots afterwards. Pretty easy to understand actually. And all of this because they over spent money in free agency to just spend money. |

Embarrassing. They had the chance to have a really good core on top of young players coming up through their system and they pissed it all away. |
