Next season is the problem... we should have signed him and traded Boeser for a RHD - Pres.cup
This This 100x This
Its called asset management
Even if you can't add cap, You sign a guy like Toffoli to a tremendous value contract, and trade a guy like Boeser to make it work for another valuable asset
That way you get 2 assets for one

one last (frank) you to Brackett on the way out the door
I think it’s clear that ownership isn’t letting him sign most players for more than 1 or 2 years. I doubt Benning himself has gone from being the guy known around the league for always giving UFA’s that extra year/NTC/500K to suddenly only offering 1-2 year contracts to quality UFA’s. - Nucker101
Sounds quite reasonable. There is something not quite right. Smells like FA meddling controlling the purse strings. Winning took a back seat. |

It's clear we don't need RHD, we have OJ. Benning say's he's ready.

If the team struggles during the season and he trades picks/prospects for a rental or 2 then even Benning fans will turn on him
We’ll see though, I’m still expecting a move here to add a RHD - Nucker101
Im expecting a desperation signing of Hamonic for way to much money and term. |

From bubble team, to playoff nuisance, to bottom 5 league wide in the span of two months of the league resuming.

Probably a good day to remind #Canucks fans that Jim Benning is paying Eriksson, Sutter, Roussel, Beagle, Ferland, Myers & Benn $27,875,000 a season. #Canucks

Toffoli not to smart paying Quebec taxes.
Was he desperate or nobody offered term? |

Likely both. Maybe no one wanted to go that 4th year or they offered a 4th year at a steep discount of 3.5M |

I tend to give JB the benefit of the doubt, but fuuuucckkkkk that. That’s a great contract. Could have easily fit under the cap. Back on the fire JB train - NewYorkNuck

Gross.... just gross.
Does anyone in here realize that minor has been fighting the last couple.
Everyone is getting along and debating civilly.
I wonder what's different right now, something is missing and I for one, don't miss it. |

Internal cap makes theory way less sense than FA limiting Benning due to lack of trust
OEL gets paid a poop load in real dollars and they were in on him. They offered Barrie 5M, they offered Marky and Tanev deals with decent money but again less term.
Either ownership doesn’t trust JB’s long term contracts or something else is up |

That what everyone keeps saying but yet, all offers are 1 or 2 years. Bs |

That seems like a more than fair deal. To give up that much and not be willing to sign a guy for 4.25 mil when he over achieved on your team (only 17 games). I agree it makes no sense. Benning has to be hand cuffed right now on giving out longer contracts due to covid and financials.
FA is in the hospitality business and is prob losing a poop ton of $ and no idea when it will come back. |

If I was Aquilini I wouldn’t shell out term in the middle of a pandemic and no fans in the stands. Smart. Although I do wonder why they wouldn’t sell a few assets and do a reset in a few years |

Yet they were in on OEL making 8M next year and then 10.5M in real dollars during the 3 years following. |

I mean we don’t know the details. Maybe they only offered a deal where AZ took back money and that’s why it fell through.

Then that defeats the purpose for a cash-strapped team like the Yotes. They wanted to shed a decent chunk of real dollars so I doubt more than 1 cap dump was involved. Even most of the leaks suggested this. I doubt they were taking on anything close to 10.5M per year in real dollars back.
Unless things change, so far this all screams like ownership meddling due to lack of faith in the GM |

And knowing Benning it was probably Sutter although his contract is better then Eriksson and Beagle |
