I read that as FA being willing to make an exception to bring in someone who would make a really big difference, rather than JB having free rein to spend whatever it takes.
Every NHL team is counting their cash carefully...including the Canucks. Remember their off-ice staff even took pay cuts during the interruption in play. I’m not saying that as a criticism of the team or organization, it’s just the reality for event-based entertainment businesses like NHL teams, even when they are owned by billionaires. - SlightlyOffside
I agree with this. I’ve been saying it all day, I don’t think JB is allowed to offer decent term unless it’s a player management really loves like Marky and OEL |

Wallmark to chicago, 1 year 950k. A good depth defensive center for cheap is off the board. |

LOL you think you are so smart and know more its hilarious seeing one snarky comment after another as if throwing stones makes you superior. Ever heard of changing circumstances or having an open mind?
Things are always fluid in dealing with constantly changing variables and there will be hits and misses. Missing out on long term deals for vet UFA's that can be replaced is not a bad thing. Especially when there is a young core emerging.
That said not here to defend or praise management but figure out what's going on and how the team will fair. Even before free agency it was apparent that top pairing D was the big weak point. Where the team needs to improve over Tanev and soon departing Edler.
Top pairing D is where investment should be made. Why OEL was a good try but there will be other opportunities; as long as, Canucks don't spread $$ on vets for long term deals.

Except for the 1st pair defenceman he brought in. - neem55
I agree, Myers isn't a number one, but he's top pairing quality..... here. |

Sorry but before free agency you and others were against term on these UFAs so now that has happened why look for alternative theories. Perhaps its just obvious Canucks know where their core is at and what is missing and top pairing D is what they are prepared to invest in. |

The JB being reigned in by Aqua theory throws it off. Why not see it for what the facts have laid out. They want to keep term for core and top paring D.
Maybe its a bad way to go or it will cost the team chemistry build not sure how that pans out but this is where they are at. |
