Whatever, long overdue but we didn't go out shopping.
JB seems to think he has talent within to fill holes. I guess we'll see how he is at evaluating his own talent.
I mentioned months ago that Covid would shoulder the blame for the inability to spend but the truth is that it's LE, Sutter, Beagle, Myers, Roussel. I mean even trading a 2nd for Sven early in the rebuild.
If he's turned the corner on bad FA deals then i'm all in but after six years of drafting he'd better have some answers other than QH, Boeser and EP, possibly Demko solving the team's talent problems.
If not, then we really have to question even the drafting "prowess". I've not been a huge fan of Benning over the years mainly because of his trading away draft picks and overpaying for underperforming FA's. If the talent he's drafted over the past half decade can start filling some major holes i'll be impressed. If not, i'm looking for a new GM. - golfingsince
Imagine if he'd had all his draft picks.... we'd be even better off |

Schmidt had a 10 team NTC list so that might’ve played a role in the lack of a bidding war here, we’re lucky that the Canucks weren’t on that list.
He and Holtby are apparently bros too |

Team would’ve looked great if they traded JV and fit in Schmidt/Toffoli by dumping Sutter or Roussel on someone. - Nucker101
One more trade like this and I’ll forgive him. |

Gaudette needs a contract - Codes1087
A difference wants and needs. I still have serious doubts about Gaudette as an NHL player.
I know this won't be popular in here, but I take Sutter as 3rd Line centre( yes I know, his caphit is high) |

Two key points of context for me at this moment in time:
1) A season and a half ago, how many of us would have viewed Marky as indispensable and/or worth 6x6? Things can change quickly and in Ian Clark we trust.
2) Look at the step the young guys took after an additional two months of training before the bubble. There is still significant latent value in the core (and in the younger guys in the system). Internal team growth is real and the team should focus on adding the right player as opposed to adding whichever player is available. - CoolerHeads
On your first point, nobody.
On your second point, sure, that will overcome having Benn in our top 4, I mean, our defense was top class anyways..... 🙂 |

Chatfield in shambles though |

$2m in cap, 21 players signed
If...
AG - $1.25
JV - $3m
LE / SB to “Utica” ($2.2-2.3 saving)
...then looks close to compliant without Ferland being on LTIR.
More to come? |

Wow. Have to wonder if this trade was set in motion earlier today, and precipitated TT signing in Montreal.
Either way, huge steal for JB |

Holding reservations on AG is fine. He has to take another step on his 200’ game. |

Buds from Washington days. I was surprised that Washington let him go, he was solid in every game I have seen him play in his nhl career.

Out Markstrom Tanev Toffoli
In Holtby Schmidt Hoglander
I can live with that
Mince in prospects slowly during a condensed season & season them. |

If Jake goes to arbitration the Canucks get a 2nd buyout window, so I would expect they get rid of Sven and probably 1 other player. |
