What you're missing is: if we trade Virtanen, we also have his cap space to work with. So, assuming he signs for 3 mil this year (which we will fit under our current cap this year), we would have 6.3 mil to work with once he's traded next year, not 3.3.
We also have Ferland counting against the cap right now as he's not on LTIR. He's either in the lineup next year, or he's not (giving us more cap space). For sake of argument, let's say he's in. It's simpler.
So, going off what you said:
Miller EP Boeser
Hog Bo Ferland
Pod. Gaud. MacEwen
Motte Beagle Roussel
LE
Here's our D depth
Hughes Myers
....... ......
OJ. Chat
Rafferty Rathbone
And our goalies are set.
Demko
Holtby
We would have 6.3 million to fill those three holes. If we don't trade LE, we can send him to the AHL, and have our total be 7.3 mil. If we do pony up and trade him, we have 12.3 mil.
So, not ideal, but completely doable. Especially with options in the system like Tryamkin and Lind to fill holes on the cheap. - NewYorkNuck
Virtanen isn't listed at any salary so trading him doesn't save anything, I did forget about Ferland though so pencil him in.
I agree with this roster, but we'd only have 3.3m to fill that gaping hole at D.

Even with a 3.3m Defenceman, that's not championship level.
I'd love to fantasize about getting rid of LE, but that not happening until after it happens. |

If there's no AHL by the start of the NHL season, will the Canucks still be able to get a couple of million in cap relief by assigning Baertshchi and Ericksson to Utica?
I'm guessing not. - YeOldTimer
If waived and not included in the NHL roster as active to play. Then only the part of the cap under CBA applies whether they sit on a taxi squad or at home it doesn't matter to the cap. So the answer is yes the relief applies.

Bridge deals for them would likely be around 7.5m
They're far far superior to Boeser |

As it stands for the season after next, with 3.3m to spend and no Virt, although we could guess he's gonna be getting between 2.5 and 3.5m and put him in the lineup, I've chosen not to.
- Pres.cup
Again, if you trade Virt, you get his cap hit to play with. So 6.3, not 3.3. |

Both of you should go to CAP FRIENDLY and start using the REAL numbers:
https://www.capfriendly.c.../armchair-gm/edit/2023650
Its $33,064,788 to complete a roster with 12 signed. Plus you know solutions will be coming on LE and Ferland's $9.5M by then. - NuckUp
The bolded sounds like VANTEL
You posted a broken link.

Yup, it might be better to go long term at ~ 8.5 million a year? They’d be the new MacKinnon and Scheifele deals. |

Virt isn't signed right now, but will be THIS YEAR. Under this year's cap.
The money coming off the books next year (Sutter, Baer, etc.) adds up to the 23.3 mil we have talked about. IF YOU ALSO MOVE VIRTANEN THAT YEAR, YOU MOVE HIS CONTRACT HE'S GOING TO SIGN THIS YEAR. Which means another 2.5-3.5 coming off the books next year. |

I’ve got different forwards on there, I don’t think Ferland will be able to continue, the defense is just deplorable....my God |

I'm not sure where they're getting it from/if it factor in Luongo and whatnot, but it does say that number:
ROSTER SIZE ––––––––––––––––––––––20–––––––––––––12
STANDARD PLAYER CONTRACTS –––––––33–––––––––––––18
UPPER LIMIT –––––––––––––––––––– $81,500,000–––––––$81,500,000
PROJECTED CAP HIT ––––––––––––––$73,551,878–––––––$48,435,212
PROJECTED CAP SPACE––––––––––––$7,948,122––––––––$33,064,788
This year and next year. |

If Ferland can't play, we get another 3.5 mil in cap space. That will help the D. |

It’s not a good situation back there with Edler and Tanev gone, perhaps Tryamkin coming back might be needed.
It’s disappointing hearing them say the “D” is their number one priority and it’s much worse than last year thus far and very little money to spend to help. |

I still think they’ll be in on OEL. Arizona had no pressure to do a deal now. They already paid the bonus and won’t have to start paying OEL until the season starts. I’m guessing there’s a deal to be had still.... especially if Arizona continues to struggle unloading $$$$ |

Worst signing yet. Marky will sink Calgary in a few years. That Barrie signing however was a gem for the Oilers |

It's early in the off season with months to go. You're worrying that they didnt make the OEL deal and wouldnt match 4 year term on Tanev? That seems to contradict what you were saying just a couple of days ago before free agency opened.

He's not signed, he's listed at 1.25 for this year.
The 3m has not been added to anything so it can't be subtracted from anything either.
So 3.3 not 6.3

Can EP and QH also not take bridge deals? My assumption is they will, and try to cash in more when the league/flat cap is getting better.
Yes, Barzal will be a good measuring stick. - NewYorkNuck
Yes, but the examples you or whoever I quoted were not bridge deals. I agree that at least one of them will end up on a bridge deal, Hughes would be my guess. I could see 7x3 for him and 10x5 for Pettersson. Matthew's signed 11.6x 5 so that would be a reduction taking in Covid. |

Lol, if he's signed it doesn't increase the available cap to 26.3 does it? No, that number is already set at 23.3.
Which leaves 3.3m after the big 3.
If virt is signed for 3m this season, yup that comes off, but doesn't add anything to the available cap because it's already set at 23.3 without him.

Cap friendly shows 33.1M in 21/22 to sign Demko, Hughes, Pettersson, Virtanen, Guadette, Benn, Edler, Tanev, Stetcher, Pearson and Sutter or replacements compared to who played this season. |
