On Janmark, late last night as I was cranking out a report for work and took a break to look at my Twitter feed, I saw a rumor that a Central Division team was interested in Janmark. In my head, I was thinking Bowman is all over this.
Then I view NHL news when I woke up this morning and -- lo and behold -- Janmark is a Blackhawk.
And yes, I expect a cookie.

The Ice Hogs have signed Cale Morris. - DarthKane
Morris was rumored to be of interest to Chicago last year so glad to see him in the fold. Can never have enough goalie lottery tickets.
With him in the system, the Hogs can go back to a trio in net, something like:
Hawks have Subban and Delia.
Hogs have Lankinen, Tomkins, and Morris.
Or play mix and match depending on who earns the starter and backup jobs in training camp. |

Scott Power wrote a nice rebuild article, but he really isn't getting solid info on the 2021 draft, and of course he is thinking they are getting a luck jump into the top three of the lotto.
Here is my more realistic and knowledgable look at the draft class.
and Arizona means one less team in the LOTTO, since they had to forfeit their selection.

Hey Wiz, noticed a huge divide in Wheeler ranking my guy Samoskevich 17th overall and you have him in the 4th rd. Gonna be interesting to watch this kid develop in his draft yr.

Signing Kahun makes sense .... affordable, can slot up and down line up .... had success with Brinky & Stromer .... AND ... played with Kubalik in Europe. Very versatlile for sure. It would brighten the outlook slightly if Nylander showed and promise as top six winger .... but he's not even close! Hawks will probablly trade for more cap space and see some more "movable parts" at trade deadline for two reasons. They don't just want to hand over spots to kids ... they must earn it !! If some kids are emerging, they can trade the "movable parts" at trade deadline. Also, they need to be competitive until the kids are ready. THEO: what do you think about the possibility of Cam Morrison possibly taking Saad's spot between Toews and Kubby? He had to earn it of course, but he had the power forward body, good hands and goes to the front of the net ..... something many Hawks fail to do. Some questionable moves for sure, but I'm holding back until finished product is ready. The injuries to Shaw and Smith have to holding up some of the moves they want to make. Can't really trade them until they prove they are healthy - chuckdahammer
Morrison is a longshot, IMO, and likely a multi-year project in the AHL first. But you never know with what's been going on lately. There could be more spots up for grabs than what we presently see.
Even then, Morrison would be hard pressed to outduel other prospects further along on the curve like Hagel, Entwistle, Suter, Kurashev, etc. Quenneville would get a shot over Morrison as far as a power forward. |

+1 on the covid economy and the uncertainty of its duration being the catalyst here not just for the Hawks’ pivot to at least a short term rebuild, but also w/ the trade market and lack of picks being moved.
Bowman is likely positioning both the payroll for the economy, the lineup for what likely will be a down season and while implementing a philosophical change to the makeup of the lines. We all saw the hawks lack of depth and physicality in the covid playoffs. Vegas pushes us around no problem.
Chalk whatever this season comes to up as a rebuild year, provide veteran structure for the incoming youth & euros, get lucky on the draft, and come into the following year much better positioned to compete. The one major red flag is goaltending looking forward. |

I wish the Bears would clean house too - both the GM and coach. Pace makes Stan look like a genius.

Well, the current state of the NHL is bad. I'm sure more money problems will hit the league before its said and done. Part of the problem now is the OMG contracts that 19, 88 and 7 have. Redonkulous money that is weighing the team down and the only one earning it is Kane. 19 and 7 have really fallen off the edge play wise and I get it. The human body can only do so much for so long. Yes some of this falls on Bowman. The Seabs deal was awful, but at the time Toews and Kane signed their deals? The league was on a huge swing up cap wise. Then it nose dived.
There was no easy way around this rebuild, but I will take you to task on the leadership roles for the old guard. They are getting paid big money. If 19 is a Captain then be one. This team was not going anywhere as constructed. Add to that the loss of many 1st round picks while trying to stay in the Cup hunt you have this. Its the cost of winning 3 Cups. - z1990z
As a frequent criticizer of 19, I had no issues the way he played in the playoffs. He obviously has a "regular season gear" and a "playoffs gear." I'm not sure that's a bad thing?

Except if he takes his usual 20 games to get interested again that will be almost 1/2 a season this year.

That move boggled my mind, why did they let Vegas off the hook after playing hardball with MAF? |

And how were they going to pay for said player? Even with Hossa on LTIR, the Hawks had cap problems. - LAHawk
If you read my post as I laid out in stans early tenure with chicago he let good players walk , sure he was gifted a deep farm league to pluck from . I'm sorry bickell and seabrook neither deserved those contracts . Seabrook age big factor and bickell was always a 4th line player.
If you d9nt resign bickell you still have tevo , if you let seabrook walk im sure the free market would have favored younger defenseman best case or seabrook doesn't find a suitable offer and Stan then can resign him to a better deal than 8 years with a nmc |

Probably could have signed Kahun for the same amount as Janmark. I sure hope they don't think he is a middle 6 player. |

Big buff , anemi , Broward , ladd he let those guys walk. After the 2010 season
Bickell was always a bottom line player, his one miraculous playoff run. Was a anomaly. History and stats are a good guage as to how a players career and success will be for the most part.
Bickell was a expendable player |
