i think fletch's goal is to compete for the 10th overall pick - 2Real
Or it could be to build a team that gets knocked out in the second round. He’s made a career out of doing that. |

Schmidt to VAN for a 3rd - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Solid pick up for the Canucks . Gotta admit Vegas sure are bold. I agree it will be tough to find a taker for Fluery but I’m sure with a bit of a sweetener and or some retention of salary there will be some teams that may bite. |

So I would think it’s obvious that the flyers didn’t want to take on Schmidt’s contract. While Charlie says the flyers didn’t have the cap they could have made room. Appears they settled for Gus at 3 mil. If Charlie is right about not enough cap then the flyers could be done, that would be disappointing. They could trade ghost but the market seems tight. - wcorvette
Charlie is not correct. They absolutely had the cap space.

They desperately want a taker for Fleury, but good luck with that without retaining a big chunk. Trading Schmidt would get them much of the way there but not all. - bmeltzer
Right now, if the want to move Fleury and must hold $$ back, they still have to dump contracts. This means they have to move Schmidt or Marchessault, or both. Could the Flyers use either one? |

Doesnt matter if we could. We had to be on a list of 10 teams he is willing to go to. - xShoot4WarAmpsx

A third round pick has what 10% chance to make the NHL? They gave Schmidt away for nothing. - PLindbergh31
So you know for a fact the Flyers weren't on his no trade list?

That really depends on what Myers and NoPa sign for. We had 8.685 mill in cap space before Gustufsson.
Schmidts cap hit is 5.95. That would have left us with 2.7 mill to sign Myers and NoPa. I still think Myers get 3 mill

I think it's even less than that. If I understand correctly, athletes/entertainers pay taxes based on the city they play/perform in, not where they're based. Only 1/2 the games are at home, so the athlete/performer still pays the same amount of taxes for road games (LV & StL excepted). - Levit8
You are right, but its even more complicated than that. He moved to the Pacific division. Two states there - Calgary and Alberta, have no income tax (or very little iirc). But California - where the Sharks and Kings are, have a high rate.
In St. Louis, there is a 1% city tax rate above and beyond the MO state tax that PL mentioned.
Then there is the whole issue of property taxes and price of real estate. I suspect where he lives in Las Vegas will be more expensive than St. Louis.

Where is the list of the teams? - PLindbergh31
No list has been released that I know of. Just saying we would need to be on it. It is common for players to want to stay in the same conference though. He might not have wanted to go to the east. Maybe some more info will be released later. What is interesting is that I heard VAN was close to acquiring OEL before they stepped away last week and now they get Schmidt for just a 3rd.

But they could make the space. Either he wanted to stay west or fletch didn’t want the term |

Ok but how does a 10 team no trade list eliminate the Eastern Conference? |

It doesn’t but once they knew a 3rd was the price how many teams you think were interested? Enough where if he wanted to stay west Vegas could accommodate him |

He's saying that, unless Ghost was moved out and even with Braun taking a 2M paycut, they couldn't have taken on Schmidt, done the rest of what they still need to do this offseason (re-sign Myers and Patrick) and have wiggle room left for the season. He's not saying that adding Schmidt by itself would have put them over the cap (it wouldn't have). |

A third round pick is nothing. Holmgren traded a second for the corpse of Pavel Kubina who was a rental. |

Yes Vegas were in cap trouble, but does this hurt Ghost’s trade value if we are truly trying to move him? |
