The Flyers will lose every game this season because these (this) move will be the only move(s) they can make before the next playoff season starts.

(frank)ing whiny, melodramatic minges

Give Vegas credit they take the gamble, pun intended. If you read their board they have concerns. Losing 2c and top 4 D to get really good D with NMC, plus you need to lose more and the long term cap and down side of AP being 31. I would have loved to sign him but I think the Flyers were in better shape to absorb him but it would have cost one of Sanheim or Myers in expansion

I am disappointed they missed out on Schmidt for basically nothing. I am not sure he would have allowed a trade here but still. It seemed like the opportunity they were waiting to pounce on. If Gustafsson is the only add to the defense I am disappointed. They still have time.

Good morning, pork roll egg and cheese or scrapple egg and cheese?

Funny some still think you can only protect 3 D in the expansion draft.

Vegas has a window to win now. I believe that chuck doesn’t see us competing for another couple of years.

With Gustafson signing, I wonder if the plan is to bump Myers up with provy? It would appear that we’d be looking to trade ghost. And if that’s the case, then maybe fletch still has a plan for the top pair hole.

You are right, but its even more complicated than that. He moved to the Pacific division. Two states there - Calgary and Alberta, have no income tax (or very little iirc). But California - where the Sharks and Kings are, have a high rate.

In St. Louis, there is a 1% city tax rate above and beyond the MO state tax that PL mentioned.

Then there is the whole issue of property taxes and price of real estate. I suspect where he lives in Las Vegas will be more expensive than St. Louis.

Those states...One is a province...Alberta, the other is a city in Alberta.

I think its crystal clear now that the upcoming expansion draft is heavily influencing the Flyers inactivity. They could have got Nate Schmidt for a 3rd round pick but they didn't bite. They could have made a play for Pietrangelo but they didn't even try. Its clear now, the Flyers don't want to lose any of their young plyers in the expansion draft, so instead they do nothing and we get another lost season! Gustafson is not the type of defenseman the Flyers need, they have him already, in multiple players. But he signed for 1 year which is perfect for the Flyers as they stick to their protection plan for the expansion draft. But as a fan, I am tired of waiting, its been 46 years and it appears the clock will continue to tick ... sigh!

How do you know that they didn't even try for Pietrangelo? Did you know they were trying for Gustafsson?

If all they gave up was a 3rd for Schmidt and then didn’t protect him in the draft I would be fine with that. If Schmidt didn’t have the Flyers on his list of acceptable teams that is one thing. If they chose not to get him because of the cap hit and term that is disappointing.

Pork roll all the way.

If you don’t go the 7 forward, 3 defenseman 1 goalie route, you lose two of those protections with dropping down to 8 skaters and 1 goalie. I’m good with protecting 11 instead of 9 personally.

The season has not even started, but the Flyers have lost it already, right?

You sound as Schmidt or Pietrangelo were a sure ticket to the cup, but neither of them is.

Let's take a deep breath and reserve strong emotions for the actual season and playoffs.

Just think if Myers and/or Sanheim don't take big steps next year. How bad would it be if they regressed even a little? GusII isnt what this team needs.

You will end up losing a good forward if you protect 4 D. IMO the forward can be replaced easier than a top 4 dman.

Here is how the Flyers defense looks this morning...of course it can change before training camp or even during the season.

Provy-Sanheim
Gus/Ghost-Myers
Gus/Ghost-Braun
Hagg-Friedman

Not ideal to have two lefties on the top pairing.
Seems like a lot to ask of Myers to hold down the fort and basically anchor the pair.
Ghost and Braun pairing didn’t exactly work well last season.
Hagg might fit if someone gets traded.
Eight seems like a bit much.

You don’t think that they might be planning to play Braun in the top 4?

You would potentially lose 2 forwards, not 1. I get why they went the way the went by not signing a big contract this year, if the expansion draft was the deciding factor. If your number 1 concern is protecting your valuable young (and potentially cheaper than any FA you can replace said asset with) players, then they make the 1 year deal they did with whatever defenseman they sign. Unless they are moving ghost, I would have picked a different option than Gus2, but it all indicates to me they want to promote from within and protect the future. Overpaying for FA’s you need to replace for talent you lose in the draft, in a flat cap situation, is just dumb and really not good business to me.

Is that a cup caliber defense? Not even sure it is playoff worthy with how tight the conf is right now.

I get the frustration but we have no clue on either AP or Schmidt (M NMC) that the Flyers were even considered by each player.

Flat cap is a bigger issue than the Expansion Draft. They have some big contracts to look at in the future for some of their young talent.

It is in the first week of FA. There is still lots of wheeling and dealing to come.

I personally like the patient game here. I would have gone after AP but that would put us in a bind but I felt he would be worth it. After that I’d be willing to hold tight and look for bargains. Continue to clean up our cap. Just my opinion.

Well I did not know that lol, thank you for the info. So they would only have to expose one extra forward, but two quality forwards. Still sucks to lose anyone for literally nothing when you’re trying to build for the future and manage a cap

Yes they lose a good player. To me Oscar is the only one I would hate to see go. At that point you work out a deal to take someone else if need be. This is all based on if they protect 4 d which right now they will not.
