You honor a person’s legacy better by treating his people - contemporary or future generations - well, than by erecting a statue, put ting his likeness on a stamp, or using it as a logo for a sports team.
We have not treated his people well since his death 182 years ago. - StLBravesFan
Who is the "we"? The Chicago hockey club? How? You seem to be saying that the Hawks must change their logo because Native Americans have been wronged by society as a whole and at least one Native American is upset with the logo and name? Is that your position? |

That alone as a statement doesn't say much. He may lack in some areas but he also checks some boxes in others. That's like me saying Teravainen isn't a good NHL forward. He won a cup on a very good Hawks team behind some great talent but he has holes in his game. He checks some boxes but lacks in others.
I'm not comparing the two players, but without any reasoning, the statement isn't gonna really tell anyone anything useful.
What do you feel Zadorov does poorly and why?
I'm not arguing that Zadorov is a breakout star or some great Dman, but he fills a need in some ways. He brings some of what the Hawks don't have much of. Hard to really say what the Hawks will get when he will be in a different situation, with different coaches and a fresh start. He was a former 1st round pick for a reason and as long as the Hawks don't expect him to play 23 minutes a night, he shouldn't hurt the team. He didn't really hurt the Avs who played well. - breadbag
.93 PPG the last two years for TT is pretty good. He consistently flips the ice. He's a good player. That is what you would expect for a guy whose turning 25 and should be hitting his stride in the league.
Zadorov is big, hits dudes and is mediocre at everything else. His time has decreased instead of increased on the ice and he sounds like a stereotypical Russian in the locker room. It is for one year so whatever.
The egregious part of that trade, regardless of the players skill, is that no futures came back.

In reality, he's playing in the KHL.
In my demented mind, he retired and opened a restaurant specializing in tiny pancakes in the shapes of your favorite cartoon characters. |

Who really cares? In the end it’s just a logo for a sports team. This is not the life or death decision that many make it out to be. Nothing is forever, and everything evolves.

But the draft was only a week ago: Stan could have moved Saad out for picks last Tuesday night, not having to wait until next year - had he been able to negotiate draft picks coming back (as NYI did for D Toews). - StLBravesFan
Good point. Perhaps Bowman didn't get any takers or didn't put Saad on the block before or during the draft. Not sure.
Agree, though, that before and during the draft would be a good time to gain picks. So there is still disappointment that the Maatta deal ended up in a career minor leaguer coming back rather than a pick. |

Back to hockey.
Ek has the Hawks as one of the three teams, along with Vancouver and Winnipeg, in the running to sign free agent, 29 year old defenseman Sami Vatanen. Just what the Hawks need, another veteran D to clog up the pipeline.
Maybe Ek got it wrong and the Hawks are interested in Jake Virtanen. |

Reading is a skill, guys.
I never said the Hawks should change the logo. I’m saying I would be sad if they do.
I’m saying that whatever happens, we should understand the issues and the effects that they have on other people. I’m saying that “can’t please everyone” and “at least one...is upset” is not helpful and will not begin to solve the problem.
And there is a problem, whether we recognize it or not. We could handle it like Snyder did for years in Washington - phuck it, phuck them, they don’t matter - or we can address the issues that the logo symbolize for many and, hopeful, diffuse the protests.
Again, and finally - although it may come to that - I do not want to change the logo, I would be very sad if it came to that. |

I am really surprised with your position. Yes it is just a logo, but the question nobody seems to ask is where does all the nonsense end?. - TrueGrit
When all the white societal errors of naming, praising and basically marginalizing all thos little pockets of POC that no one "realized" were insensitive.
There is no rightest slant that makes the omission of thoughtfulness a issue that someone is making "too much of."
When you have figured out what institutional racism is, that all these things have to, from you calling me Polish person, to using a Indian as a white owners team name.

As we know, the market is down for most free agents .... they will not get the big contracts that they might have in other non pandemic years. THEO: do you think that possibly Bowman might be waiting out, until he can sign a desent top six forward at bargain price ??? He will have more to spend if they can dump some salary in a trade or say LTI Zach Smith. |

That is why I would like the Wirtz's to end this franchise and start a new one. because it will always be what someone remembers it, so does it really go away even when the logo/name changes? And like the poster earlier who mentioned the name of the town, if that town did change the name, wouldn't you still be offended by the word that the town was called? what did it really solve? Nothing!

I wouldn't be opposed to signing Vatanen if it's on a one-year deal to continue the trend that Bowman seems to be setting.
However, to your point, there is a glut of veteran blueliners now. So like the forward ranks, one or more players on the blueline need to be shipped out.
I would still venture to say that the 2020-21 D corps will include Boqvist and at least one more youngster, i.e. Carlsson as the lead candidate but could be a mix of him, Mitchell, Kalynuk, or Beaudin. |

To answer your question, yes, I think that is a plausible scenario. I just hope Bowman isn't doing all of these transactions to make way for a huge splash with a high-priced free agent.
If a new high-priced player is to join Chicago, then a significant amount of salary should ideally go out. Said new player should also match the new direction towards an infusion of personnel who compete hard in all zones. |
