If we can get a 1st for Nylander it'd be the best move Stan pulled off in ages...that being said I don't see getting much for him. |

Theo,
This goes out to many bloggers who contribute solid opinion and counter with response when a comment is made which is wrong or shallow or whatever
Since Theo follows the Icehigs closely and has written about comoete level on the future Blackhawk team, i want to be sure he reviews this and if appropriate can respond
The RE: composition or make up of the Dallas Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning, Colorado Avalanche, NYI. Maybe I should include Boston Bruins too.
I noticed how each player contributes, has a role AND CONTRIBUTES TO THE SUCCESS. In the playoffs we had sporadic help from somewhat incapable players. Their weakness and or style of play made them appear detrimental actually. They dud not get the job done
Strome, DeBrincat, Boqvist particularly come to mind.
I respect and admire teams that trade for a Coyle. Bruins are hard to play against. No passengers.. Skill and deep. Foot soldiers so to speak. Hungry kids to.Teams whose unheralded players have a role like Haley and that heroic nobody teamatte of his (where dud he come from) swwde or funny forward with all the game tie and game winners in the playoff run.
On Dallas two big size dmen (Linddll and Oleksiak) stepped up and were a force. Yes they had weak points in puck management at times but they stepped up big time as strong defensive game
So Sttime can't skate. Late to pucks and winning pucks. Not a boards guy either. When DeBrincat us not scoring, he doesn't accomplish much. Boqvist is overmatched right now. Adequate strength and he should gain some confidence
So all that to get to this: how well, how far could an underdog Bkackhawk team go if suddenly our lineup is filled with lots of compete, all good skaters, all reliable two way forwards - well you have Kane your superstar but everyone else SOLID. No bums not accomplishing much
Wallmark, Jamrock, Hagel in. Saad is out. Take DeBrincat and Saad out. Remember you have good workers like Highmore and Kampf on 4th line.
This is not a lineup with burly firwards playing the cycling game. Which is why i really would like a bigger size power firward type even of moderate skill to be found and in the lineup.
I imagine Entwhistle could replace Carpenter....well eventually. I would like to see how well Barret skates, since I like his abrasiveness or willingness to battle fir pucks and be a mouthpiece pest. Barret like Entwhustle are not ready - yet.
Each line each shift doggedly pursuing and rushing the puck. Yet responsible. We will skate with or outskate the opponent. A better skill team might beat us but they will be one tired team that beat us
I realize that I have omitted commentary on how our goaltending and blueline crew figure into this hoped for success. That is due to the fact that both groups is a work in progress. An optimistic view as far as the dmen and goaltenders working out well enough next season...this has to be the larger concern
I could imagine enough veterans and kids mix on defense. Just keep Murphy. Boqvust has to turn a corner, or simply be teplaced in a playoff game by a kid who can more smart and effectively handle the physical checking aspect. I am including Carlsson = just fine/good. Zadorov might be a lot like those twi big Dallas trees on defense....comparable, maybe not quite as solid. defensuvely but not bad and fills a need.
DeHahn and Seabrook? Offer two veterans, two choices to employ depending upon how everyone else is performing. I like the smarts and coolness a Beaudin and Kalynuk have and msybe IF due to injuries I hope they are smarter, more able to find success than in how Boqvist is a handicap....you know if it came down to replacing Boqvist.
I omit Mitchell. He is kind of a wild card. How long before he might be solid. ....might he handle the physical checking aspect better than Boqvist. A little bit better? Maybe Mitchell replaces Boqvist
Now I really do like Biqvist but his time has not yet come to show what he could become
So what you say about this fast doggedly pursuant set of forwards? And the gialtending has to be adequate. Chris Ogood comparison would be fine if we can hope it happens |

Interesting. What do the qvist and mark endings
mean? - boilermaker100
I don't know. My Dad used to teach my brothers and me some Swedish when we were kids but that's a long long time ago so I don't remember much.
Many Swedish surnames are simply weird. I think there's only about 5 or 6 words that get stuck together in random order and there you go - Bergstrom and Stromberg, Markqvist and Qvistmark, etc; or they're somebody's son - Gustafsson.

So just understand you looking high energy guys with the willingness to do what ever is needed by the team to win. You sum that all up in 2 words imo grit and heart because those are type of players needed to win and complement the skill talent and game changers. Tampa found that out last year then rectify that issue this year by trading for goodrow colman and signing shenn bogosion and maroon. Each of those players brought something different to the team and roles on the team in which they accepted. Result stanley cup winner. Need a balance lineup to be successful. Maybe i completely off but that is what gathered from your post jhawk. Let me know if i was.

The bottom line is Stan Bowman doesn't have the balls to discuss his plans with the core and get their input, or at least try to get their buy-in. Just like he didn't have the balls to let Q know he was trading Hammer and Panarin. The next year, he brings in Manning, Kunitz and some other junk to insure that Q fails so he can fire him. He didn't have the guts to mention that he got an extension. He didn't have the guts to give Crow a heads up on his offer being non-negotiable. Stanbo is a total failure, and Danny Wirtz, by tying himself to Stan, is well on his way to being as popular as Grandpa Dollar Bill was when he ruined the Hawks for decades and alienated 99% of their fanbase. |

Also, I have been thinking over the Zadorov trade the last day or so. I guess I would prefer to watch Zadorov play defense (or what maybe a few say lack there of) than watch Gustafsson play basically no defense, and give up 1-2 break aways on the PP. Hopefully it will also help that he is unafraid to drop the gloves, so I don’t see Shaw get concussed in a fight or watch ADB try and stand up for Kane and drop the gloves to “fight”, all 5’6” of him.
I like Murphy, but I really have wished he had more of a mean streak or was tougher to play against. If the Hawks were close to being Cup Relevant, I would have looked into Brendan Dillon, who always gave Kane headaches. |

Among those is Mike Hoffman as TSN’s Frank Seravalli reports in the latest Insider Trading segment that the winger is open to taking a one-year deal but is holding firm at his salary range between $5.5MM and $6.5MM. |

This COULD be true, but it simply is conjecture. The truth is that we don't now what Stan did or did not communicate. I might be wrong, but I'm almost positive the Kunitz was brought in specifically for Q.
All of the "Stan doesn't have the guts" stuff is just venting really. I don't discount it, and you are 100% free to do so, but it is not based on any hard facts. |

When you retain salary it is the same amount each year for the length of the contract. Maximum amount that can be retained is 1/2 the AAV.
So in your example the maximum is 2M retained for year 1 and 2M for year 2
Edit - again in your example if the team wants to retain 3M over the remaining 2 years, it will be 1.5M and 1.5M each year. |
