It might be possible but JR's comments about thinking the 3rd line is set and secured now are worrisome regarding this, no doubt haha. - MattStrat
He’s pretty transparent, so unless something falls into his lap I’d say this is the roster going into camp. |

Yep, Koekkoek played the right side for Chicago in the playoffs this year.
And if you get a guy who can play either side, you can let Riikola go and save a little cap and open up a roster spot for a forward instead of carrying 8. - Tojo.
Nice, I’m all for it then. Versatile, still relatively young, and an upgrade over Ruh, who I’d rather keep as depth.
Plus I’m sure the price is right, so come on down Mr. Koekkoek! |

He wasn't transparent regarding Jacko at first though haha Couldn't be |

True. But I'll take the larger sample size of Rutherford's need to tell the media his exact hand over the one time his move didn't quite line up with what he said. Even in the Johnson case, he said something along the lines of "He'll be a good 3rd pairing guy next year whether its here or somewhere else," so its not like he ever definitively said he was staying. |

Our defense at the forward position would take a huge hit and we would be even shallower at the center position, so no.
We just need one of Hoffman, Dadonov, or ideally IMO, Granlund. Get rid of someone like Sceviour to do it. - Hockey66
Agreed. Figured I would throw out a scenario. I would prefer Hoffman due to his speed and forechecking ability compared to Dadonov. Even though I feel Dadonov would slot perfectly next to Gino and Hoffman next to Sid. Granlund is interesting especially as a 3rd line player. He could help bring a different dimension and could play center as a fill in. I doubt we bring any of the players in, but I really would love to see Hoffman as a Pen since he does fit the speedy, gritty, forechecking winger that would fit well with this team. |

Not entirely true. His tune changed as soon as he acquired Matheson. He was pretty clear JJ’s future was up in the air. |

At this point I cant help but think Rikky-Math will be a pairing...and its possible it might be effective as the 3rd pairing... - MattStrat
I'll be happy if Matheson can actually play the right, but I'm not counting on it until I see it. |

Yep, but I'm not ruling out something falling into his lap. GMJR is pretty antsy in general and is known to check in on people just in case. |

I hope so. I think he’s going roll with this roster, see how guys like Poulin and O’Connor fair in camp and my guess is if he feels it’s still necessary to upgrade the 3rd line, he’ll wait until ZAR comes back to either ship him or Scevior out to clear space and trade more assets to get said player. |

Which sucks, why not just sign one forward now, spend no assets. It also helps if there is an injury in the top 6 for scoring depth. As of now any injury in the top 6 puts McCann up there so it looks even worse. Poulin really needs to be ready for us or were super (frank)ed in the bottom 6. |

Because he missed out and acted too quickly. I don’t know what’s going to be left at this point in the FA market that moves the needle for the third line, but at this point I just don’t expect him to add any forwards when he already has 14 signed.
I think he’s staying put until camp at the earliest and will make his moves pre-deadline like he always does unless it’s a complete poop show. |

I would like dad as he is more of a 2 way player than hoff. But dad is a senator now so there’s that. Unfortunately I think we are done and this is our team. Now how to maximize it. Can’t wait till camp! |

Nice signing. OTT could be good sooner rather than later. Brannstrom coming up, one or both of their draft picks could play this year.
Should be interesting to watch. |

Oh, I'm not counting on it either... Just think it might be the current idea for JR and Sully. Even if that pair sn't that effective it might still be better than the 3rd pair that played the Habs haha. |

I can only think of a couple of GOOD dmen who play their off-side effectively. I think Matheson/Ruh is what’s likely. |

I’d probably go:
Matheson - Marino
Petts -Ruhwedel
And hope Marino masks and covers Mathesons deficiencies a bit
That way you have a boring but effective 3rd pair. |

Yup, it’s sad, but Sully gets so fixated and rigid on certain linemates that he won’t explore new ways.
I actually think Petts/Ruh would be a seriously good shut down pair. |

I don’t think JR is signing any more forwards right now, but I would still give Kovy a look for a one year deal at around $1M or inquire about Soderberg; given his age and the market I’m curious if he would take a one year $2M deal or maybe even two years. |
