From a guy that considers himself agnostic, wtf is wrong with Bible thumpers?

I myself am a Christian but was wondering the same thing. Most people are more worried about moving somewhere with a high rate of crime or pollution. Not sure why this would be high up on the list.

I think some of you are reading too much into a couple of playoff meltdowns. This wasn't a team that barely snuck in the playoffs.

Why, because they're too old? I thought Dallas was, yet they made it to the final. After Sid, Malkin, and Letang, the only guys over 30 are Sceviour and Ruhwedel who may not even be everyday players.

Because they looked awful in the playoffs? How many teams have been buried for that and gone on to win? How'd Tampa look last year?

This roster has some holes as most do, but it doesn't stink.

- Tojo.

I dont think they stink. I think they are good enough to get in and maybe win a series. But they have two 4th lines right now. Point being Id rather make a big splash to try to get deeper than roll with a lineup that will never win a cup.

I believe Dumo, Petterson and Matheson will all be really solid for the Pens. But when you are deep here and so weak in other areas its a matter of asset allocation. Of the bunch, Dumo has the highest value and is also the most likely to regress, especially coming off of an ankle injury.

I’m curious what you could net for Dumo? I like him a lot, and think he’s the best partner for Letang, but I also think LD is the only position that you could trade for any value on this team without hurting depth.

Pittsburgh isn't bad, it's got a solid night life and cool thing's to do. I'd say it's middle of the pack, it's definitely not terrible but not the best.
- 668710

Solid night life? compared to what? like what are the cool things to do? The weather stinks, the roads are horrible due to the drastically changing weather. Literally, the only thing Pittsburgh has going for it, is being a world leader in the health industry, which is important, but not for most people, especially professional athletess. The only thing that i can think of that i have done that makes pittsburgh stand out, is riding the gateway clipper to a Steelers game, and consistently go to Pirates games for $5.

I think the Jets could use him most and its well established that Winnipeg has a really hard time recruiting players. They have been dangling Roslovic and Niku out there, both of whom I really like and think have upside. My proposal was Dumo and Sceivour for those two. I believe Petterson would do just fine with Letang and Niku would be solid on the 3rd pair.

Most important to me is I WANT HOFFMAN!!!! So getting enough cap space to sign him would be important, this trade would help that case. I actually think he is a better version of Kessel, sucks at D and not physical at all but he can create goals out of nowhere and I think he has a better shot.

Pittsburgh the city is probably middle of the pack.

Top end: Tampa, Florida and Vegas are extremely attractive due to tax and weather. The California teams also offer great weather/lifestyle and everyone like NY for some unknown reason.

Bottom end: Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton (though with McDavid that somewhat changes).

Middle: everyone else.

Bible thumpers is just a derogatory term for people of faith, specifically Christianity, and its extremely ignorant. While i have always considered myself agnostic (as i grow order and "up", i find it changing quickly), i have zero problems acknowledging vital role Christianity has played in creating the model for the free world.

So to reiterate, what is the problem with bible thumpers?

No, bible thumpers to me are people who push their religion. I have no problem with people having faith in whatever they want.

Tax is an extremely important one that i did forget about. But i do think pittsburgh is middle of the road for that too. Which begs the question...why did toffoli choose MTL? he apparently took a pay cut, and i think they have the most total taxes in the league...something like 50% i think.

I remember we talked about this last year, and someone posted a list of taxes income taxes by team...

Where did the expression Bible thumper come from?
“Bible-Thumper” is a derogatory term for Christians. It originated as a reference to old-school “fire and brimstone” preachers (meaning those who preached primarily about sin, hell and eternal damnation) who might shout during their sermons, pounding their fist on the Bible

I think Toffoli can see the potential of the young team, plus who knows how they wined and dined him. Side note read a few rumors that Pens did contact a bunch of players and agents going into free agency. They tried hard for Craig Smith from what the rumors are saying. I believe it may be true that the Pens really aren't an appealing destination for free agents. Maybe it's the media? Maybe it's the way our staff approaches free agents or tries to sell the team? Something doesn't make sense that we have to trade for all of our players instead of being able to be a contender to sign good players.

Because its Canada, he's Canadian, its one of the top hockey markets in the world and one of the best cities in the world with all sorts of things to do young or old. Also the state of the world and being in your own Country, one that has done a half decent job with at least containing Covid, might be factor as well...although there is some spiking going on again.

All speculation, of course.

Weather isn’t the end all be all for people when assessing the desirability of a town. In fact, if you grow up in cold climates, your tolerance for Miami heat might be way lower than your tolerance for Canadian cold. My wife’s from Michigan and I think she’d have an easier time living in Canada than she would in Puerto Rico.

Fact is Montreal is a super cool town. If the winters don’t bother you, The pros of playing for an original six team and fan base could out weigh the negatives of the percentage of your paycheck you lose to taxes.

I mean, factoring in population density, across the entire countries, i wouldn't say Canada has done any better of a job containing Covid.

Some parts have, some parts haven't, on a whole though? Yeah, we've done pretty good. Economy on a whole is shot though. Where I am in the country has been excellent. Our provincial (state) economy has been pretty much wide open, with some restrictions of course on capacities and what not, since June and holding.

If this exact scenario were to occur I would sign up for it without hesitation. I view Petterson as similar to Dumo and also think he could do well with Letang. He’s a defenseman that I think does a good job complimenting his teammates.

Plus I’m onboard the Hoffman express. I think a player like him would do wonders for this team and help with depth on offense.

Thats true! (i think, im not fact checking you, because it's really not important)

But in the case of a virus, basically solely transmitted though close h2h contact. Having a population density of CAN 4 ppl/ sqkm vs USA 36 ppl/ sqkm, an argument could easily be made that it would be 9 times harder to contain the virus in the united states.

He’s from Ontario. Ottawa sucks. TO has no cap. Montreal is still Closed to home. En is is from Edmonton maybe that’s why he took a mil there. Murray is from Ontario. Maybe that’s why he didn’t (frank) that trade up.
