Not sure how his skillset isn’t being utilized on the PK... That speed is a half dozen SHG waiting to happen & all he‘d have to do in our system is stand in a box & win races to loose pucks with soft perimeter players... & I guess be willing to block some shots
- DrChristianTroy

I just don't think JV is engaged enough or aware enough to PK. Green doesn't even trust him out there in the third period to defend a game, which says something. Ya, he's got breakaway speed, but his toolkit doesn't lend much else to being on the PK.

I know your argument is he can be taught, but I don't buy it. If that was the case, any player in the league could be a PK specialist with enough coaching. Some just aren't built to do that.

My thing was that they should’ve tried it back when this team was sucking, there was no downside to giving him a chance when the playoffs were out of reach anyway.

Did Jake ever PK in junior? Or in Utica?

I finally did my own attempt at an arm chair GM the way I see some of you do it. I did it like this

Step 1.
Send the rights to Gaudette and Virtanen to Boston for a 1st. Both players fit Bostons normal style and Gaudette is from that area and is likely to be a lifer there.

Step 2.
Send the acquired first we just got from Boston to Ottawa to take Loui off our hands a

Step 3.
Trade Rafferty and a 3rd to Tampa for Cernak. Sign him to a 4x4 taking him until he is 27

Step 4.
Sign Duclair to a 2 x2.5 contract

Left with up front
Miller - EP - Boeser
Pearson - Bo - Duclair
Hoglander - Motte - Sutter
Roussel - Beagle - Macewen
Ferland and/or Lind pending Ferlands health

Offense takes a small overall step back from last year, but is a bit heavier and harder to play against. Hopefully gets a boost from Pod around mid season.

Defense would be
Hughes - Schmidt
Edler - Cernak
Joulevi - Myers
with Rathbone and Benn as the backups

Defense would be heavily improved over last year. More than enough to make up for the slightly less lethal offense.

Demko
Holtby

No surprises in net

This actually leaves 2.5 mil in cap space to take a chance on another forward on a possible 1 year deal. Maybe use it to bring Leivo back?

Motte as 3C is pretty underwhelming. That's a lot to give up to move Loui. Doubt Tampa would accept that for Cernak. Duclair apparently wanted 5 mil from Ottawa, so not sure you'll get him for 2.5. Would also pair Cernak with Hughes, and Schmidt with Edler.

Overall though, the D is much better. I think the forwards takes a big hit.

I wouldn’t classify that as good or even pleasing to listen to.

Glad you like it, but it still sucks goat balls, one step above Rap..

I think its better than an offer sheet. Offer sheet hate from other GMs still seems to be around the league. Its still fairly cheap. Gives them a replacement D prospect

No idea how reliable Irf is as an insider(isn’t he basically the brown Dan Murphy?). But I saw this on HF:

Irf Gaffar just said on Sportsnet 650 that Habs really wanted Viranen at the draft but Benning refused to trade him because Arizona was expressing that any trade for OEL will include Virtanen. He didnt mention what the offer was for Virtanen but specualted that Habs might still go after him because theyve loved Virtanen's speed and size for a long time now

Gallagher would have to be a pure rental since they can’t afford his extension.

I like Danault a lot too

I’d easily do JV + Gaudette for him

Well they reported on the radio today Nucks, OIL and Flames were looking at bringing in their AHL teams to play in Canada so yeah that is one of the start up plans.

Who knows what will happen next season. For all we know the AHL could be 100% bubble and players sent down refuse to be away from their families to play in the AHL. The league owners could also discuss and agree upon a free buyout for each team to remain cap compliant as well. Hard to say what will happen.
Worst case scenario is Gallagher becomes a player we deal at TDL for assets(1st +)

You've mentioned this several times that ship has sailed with new CBA. Owners don't want to lose real $$$ on buyouts and escrow will be good for them on revenue shortfall.

Exactly, his next contract won’t age well. He’d have to be a reasonable rental which I highly doubt he will be

Just to throw it out there, the Canucks went 5-10-0 against the other Canadian teams this past season. They didn't have a winning record against a single team.

Cal: 1-2-0
Edm: 2-2-0
Mon: 1-1-0
Ott: 1-1-0
Tor: 0-2-0
Wpg: 0-2-0

Oof that's a bad contract. Much like Myers, I think it will look bad by year 2 or 3
