Ya I like Pearson but bit of a Tweener. I have no idea how they can afford a legit winger for Bo this year or next with their cap constraints. Really need a prospect to pan out

The Athletic article VHG posted also mentioned that the Canucks were basically stuck holding their cap space waiting for the Schmidt deal. Obviously they could of still signed TT and used the overage space but they decided not too.

Yeah, I don’t fault Benning for avoiding the situation of being over the cap and having to make a trade in a desperate position with other GM’s. The fact that some GM’s thought that the Canucks should have traded less for Schmidt tells you how greedy some GM’s get when they smell cap hell blood lol.

In hindsight, I would’ve done what Toronto did with Kapanen and sold the player I wanted to sell before free agency to really maximize flexibility heading into free agency. Pearson and Virtanen would’ve been the candidates to do it with, but obviously wouldn’t get the sane return that Kapanen got which is completely fine.

And those idiots lost out. A negotiation shouldn’t be about wins and losses. Negotiation 101. Hope they enjoy their shambles Defense this season

Nada

Is it any good? Last one i bought and played was 17

17 was horrible, 20 was a big step forward, 21 is quicker to load and franchise mode is much improved

Read that this morning and knew it would make it here. I'm sure some will dismiss this version of events as media speculation but I don't think the Athletic would jeopardize their relationship with the Canucks if it wasn't true.

That said, I had forgotten Schmidt had a 20 team NMC so how many of the 10 teams on his list had cap? It sounds like at least some of the other teams were trying to get Vegas to take back another contract to make it work.

Good on Benning for not (frank)ing around and pulling the trigger quickly to get the deal done. He might of been able to play ball and gotten more assets, retention or swapped contracts but he might of also lost the deal.

They forget to mention a couple key things.

Other teams tried to get him, Winnipeg had an article about him refusing to waive.
JB had called them earlier and told them that if they signed pet, he be willing to trade for one of their defenceman.

All the other teams wanted cap retention or a dump going the other way, JB jumped on it because he's not a lame duck, and because freebie called him and told him to do it.

Hamonic is a broken shell of his former self and in my view, wouldn't be much of an upgrade on Benn lol.

Vatanen is a touch younger and can actually move the puck.
I don't believe he is all that slow either? Also, are referencing Stecher? In what world was he slow?

No...it wasn't enough for #teamwhiner...

Vegas need to take one of our bad contracts to make that deal a win for JB
