One other thing - there was some chatter on Twitter over the weekend that VGK was looking to trade Schmidt to Florida.

Makes you wonder what Florida was offering. Maybe the Canucks not having to send back any sort of player was something Florida didn't want to. Or maybe Schmidt had Florida on his no trade list?

I just heard from some basement dwelling interneter that FA was preventing JB from signing anyone long term. I just figured that since Schmidt has 5 years left on the deal, FA would be involved.

...but yeah, I agree that it's reaching to start blaming FA when bad things (or lack of good things) happen.
