I’m not rehashing my thoughts on this because I did that yesterday.
But. It’s laughable how people just think we can trade Boychuk or Leddy. If either of those guys were wanted, you think Toews would have been traded? Lou, himself, said he didn’t like that he had to make this trade. Considering Vegas got one 3rd round pick for Nate Schmidt, getting 2 2nd round picks for a RFA looking at a significant raise, I’d say he did alright, things considered. - potvin05
The thought is that the picks acquired in trading Toews will give the Isles the ammo they needed to include a sweetener to move Boychuk. There's still no guarantee that someone wants Boychuk and a 2nd for, essentially, nothing...but adding two 2nd's that we didn't have gives the Islanders a chance to be able to move him. Before that? Not a shot in hell.
And nobody is trying to move Leddy. Trotz loves him, they can't afford to now that Toews is gone, and he's owed a lot of real money in the final two years of his deal...so very unlikely another GM is going to get the green light from ownership to make that move. |

now we have 2 2nd round picks to offer....
Lou should have bundled Toews and JB and called it even. I would have liked that much more than what we lost and what we're still stuck with, which leaves 1 FA still in jeopardy. Now we have to pray Barzal doesn't get a big offer sheet. - Puckin_Island
Name a team that has the cap and the assets to put Barzal into a situation to accept said offer sheet AND the Islanders to not match.

It's laughable that you don't think Leddy is tradeable. - niteislander
He is “tradeable” but just what do you expect to get back for him? 2 2nd round picks? Leddy is 29 and getting paid for 2 more years and if Nate Schmidt only netted Vegas a 3rd round pick, what’s Leddy getting back? A 4th maybe? A 5th?
And, as someone else already pointed out, Leddy had a much better postseason than Toews. |

Now, there’s no chance Leddy is going anywhere. I was just saying, previous to Monday, Devon Toews was easier to trade, and netting a nicer return, than Leddy. Otherwise, agree with your post. |

Schmidt had a partial no-trade clause though. Leddy has no such thing as far as I know. Could make it reasonably easier to get more. I mean, all Nate had to do was pick 10 teams that had the cap space for him and nullify them to steer them closer to where he wanted to be, which was much more restrictive this year.

Schmidt's actual salary is much more in line with his cap hit though. Leddy is making $6.5M this year and $7M next year with a $5.5M cap hit. GM's aren't dying to (or more likely, allowed to) spend their owners money excessively when there's no money coming in between last season and the upcoming one.
All of it is moot though. Isles can't afford to lose him now that Toews is gone. |

Someone was going to be gone from the team, 1 or 2 more are still likely to be gone. Its life In cap world. People need to start looking at it the other way. Not being upset with who is or isn't gone, but who is still here. If you asked everyone who they wanted to be here the most for the next 4-7 years , I am pretty sure Barzal and Pulock would be top 3 choices. Thats what we need to see, how to keep them. They are much harder to replace than Toews. I think Lou did a great job getting 2 Seconds for him. Its more than they would have gotten if he had signed an offer sheet somewhere. It sucks that he and someone else will be gone,(unless its Ladd, that won't suck) but its what they have to do to keep other ,better players.

I still don't believe they can add anyone significant even if they move Boychuk. Moving JB gives them about $15M in cap space. You can probably push it to $16M if Hickey is demoted to the AHL. Barzal and Pulock are probably going to take up $12-$13M of that space.
Or maybe Lou gets them to come in lower than that because of the flat-cap. Who knows, this whole offseason is one big mind(frank). |

Ek needs to bust out his calculator. Unless you loose your two best players to offer sheets, that ain't happening. |

Leddy is very tradeable, a puck moving dman w/2yrs left at reasonable cap hit, issue is Trotz really likes him over Teows. |
