I have a friend who has owned a company for decades. He just changed his residency to Florida where he owns a condo. And he'll have the excuse to spend more time in nice weather all winter instead of working his sack off up here. Most likely what a lot of the people that have the means to do so will do. And the middle class will get it stuffed up their butts. Again. - 6628

I don't see Strome being traded. I say let him develop for another year and work on his game. He's far too talented to give up on.
Hell i say that with all the Hawks, even Nylander, since they've decided this is the route they are going to go. - BetweenTheDots
I was more so making the point that if the Hawks aren't going to try and win and if the front office doesn't think some of the young forwards are ready for the NHL, then take a flyer on some guys for one year and see if you can flip them at the TDL.
Soderburg types. Those players have value come TDL when teams are trying to shore up for the playoffs. If Shaw comes back and has any sort of decent start you move him for whatever you can get.
No reason to play Carpenter or Kampf. Either play a youngster or get someone signed who might actually have some value come TDL.
I would be surprised if both Murphy and DeHaan are both still here when the season starts. With Zadorov on the blueline now it is overcrowded. Boqvist and Carlsoon/Mitchell need playing time.
Keith, Murphy, DeHaan, Zadorov, and Seabrook is one too many. Unless Seabs is the 7th d-men but I don't think that is a good idea. The core is really going to start grumbling if Seabs is healthy and sitting 5 out of 6 games. |

Would love to see them attach Krebs to MAF and take Smith off our hands a la the Bickell trade with Teuvo |

I know a lot of employees that work for the City of Chicago (unfortunately I was one for a while). Most plan on taking their pension and booking it out of this state. Florida or Az are the two most popular choices. Ones that can't afford to bail for Indiana. |

I like him too but Tompkins may very well end up in Indy with our goalie depth. I did not care for Rockford carrying 3 goalies last season. Tough to see what a player can do with part time work. - Assman22
I want Subban to get every opportunity to show what he does, or doesn’t have. I’m hoping between Subban and Lainksy, we might have a serviceable starter...at least for a year or two. |

I don’t like Florida, or Arizona for that matter, but I’m not sure that being in the Chicago area is worth the added expense anymore. |

100%. Do not expect this team to be competitive next season. If they are, it's a bonus. |

Try CA.
We've got a Gov that wants everyone to drive an electric car in a state that cannot reliably keep the power on. |

I think that is the team's opinions on them and the rockford trio of goalies.
You don't know how they fair until they are thrust into those NHL situations and you see if they can be dynamic additions that are not deficits in the games...
they are hoping that these goalies who they didn't draft are similar to the drafted St. Louis goaler, Jordan B, who gained confidence and won the starters =job, enough to win them one Cup, anyway...

Which the mobsters in Springfield will try to do every chance they get once they "wet their beaks" like Don Fanucci said to a young Vito Corleone.

I know that wiz in particular with his 30+ years breaking down tape of juniors in Canada & elsewhere As WELL AS OTHERS who watch a lot of junior level hockey such as Mr Richochet
And forgive me because I know there are a couple more bloggers here who also see a good amount of games - oh yeah Darth Kane too
Don't know if you saw the story in The Athletic about how scouting will be different this season. Sure different for the bird dogs who drive to the games and see the same kids numerous times each season. The protocol just to enter an arena, the ritual of pregame meals for scouts, and how that is not the way now. Social.distancing, taking temperature of scouts to asdure to are safe to watch.....and what they wstch is a game with no fans
The scouts will not attend The Hlinka Tournament and some all star games featuring the three top junior leagues in Canada. They were canceled. The Christmas Workd Junior Tournament, however, is happening as it will be played in a bubble atmosphere.
Craig Button, in that story, mentioned how something like 10 -15 of the top 35 prospects he hadn't seen yet this season because their games were canceled
The Quebec Junior League is the only major junior league to actually have some early season games. But now they are cancelled, as there had been a slew of positive covid tests.
Just goes to show that kids too often learn the hard way and need to go through peaks and valleys in the growing up process. They want to believe they can risk it, yet they don't see the danger as too great that they get the virus and then they cannot be evaluated for the nhl because they were out sick.
Might seem a low risk but if they are safe then they likely do not get shut down from the virus.
Anyways this scouting for the evaluation for NHL teams or whether it is wiz or whomever......it appears that there will be less games and therefore a smaller data base of either tape in actually watching games
The thoughts I have about that actually raise some serious questions
Pertinent because I want to see the Blackhawks draft a power forward or minimumly a big mean dman who is mobile and and make the first pass out of his zone. And the 2021 draft is supposed to be deep in centers and dmen. Wiz said so....and he added that it is shaping up as a strong deep draft
So are NHL teams cutting back on their scouting. Will they be able to make good call on whom to draft. Well I imagine the first round everyone has a good idea.
Really? The first few, then when you get into next tier and tier after that....how well have players been scouted.
Might some teams consider trading a first round pick 2021 for a first round pick 2022? Figuring that fans will start coming back because there is an innoculatiin and fewer people are getting sick. We can afford to scout more thoroughly. Why draft someone in 2021 if we aren't as well.prepared to determine whom is the best choice when our turn comes up
So another team could seize the opportunity. Maybe of a certain two players are available at such and such spot, the Blackhawks draft a power forward with their own pick. Would be nice to snag a later #1 and draft a dman like the one they reportedly would have selected if Mintreal didn't take him one spot earlier.
I also wonder if a team can make an attempt to move up a few spots by swapping out $1 picks. Take the Kraken, the expansion team, as an example.
Like Vegas I imagine they will be able to choke some $1 choices out of some teams. We could beat another team to one of the draft choices by saying, we will trade you Murphy and toss in a couple of midline prospects. You need to build a farm system with possible back up for NHL recall. What prospects could we let go, some prosoects who could be closr to NHL ready but their ceiling is as bottom line, bottom pair.
Somewhere somehow at least one smart GM will be looking at all the angles. I really have no clue if Bowman would try to trade for a second #1 2021 but I could imagine there are ways to extract an additional #1
Just hope that you have done a good job scoutig |

There are other choices, get the heck out of Illinois for one. Also don’t be fooled, this “fair tax” will raise everyone’s taxes. - Angotti
the thing people miss is this gives them the ability to do what ever they want with taxes. people can work remote why would you pay 8% along with 11% sales tax and 2% in property taxes to live in a cold weather high crime area. IL effective tax is over 50% the only other states over that threshold are CAL and NY. you can move to FL TX and NEVADA and your effective tax is closer to 40%. if someone makes $1mil that is a extra $100K per year you keep. just for living somewhere warm.

I actually know a few real estate attorneys that still practice around Chicago but don't live in Illinois. They just have a coverage attorney who attends the actual closing for them and court when needed. They come into town when it is absolutely necessary.
Cook County property taxes are going to skyrocket in the next couple of years. It is not sustainable and they can't figure out another way to try and make up the ever growing deficit gap. The CTA is a money pit along with the pensions. Most of the remainder of money goes to servicing the ever increasing debt (and paying the interest on it).

Not trying to start a economy thread, but I would think if they lowered the tax rate, more people would shop and possibly move back here. How many people near the border states buy gas in the neighboring states? Get those people back buying in this state. Seems too simple?

That's great for him, the wife and i plan on living in the suburbs of Chicago, the rest of our families live here as well. Whatever taxes we'll have to pay, then so be it. I was just pointing out that taxes are going to go up one way or another. But i guess I'm one of those people who would rather have the house paid off and pay more in taxes, instead of having a mortgage where i get to deduct 28% of the interest

Yeah I fill my tank up when I visit my Pops in Crown Point. Taxes are high here. Only places I recall seeing gas more expensive than ours is California and Hawaii. Maybe Nevada around Las Vegas had similar rates.
The only thing acceptable about our high property taxes in the suburbs is our great schools at all levels. For high schools, Stevenson, Fremd, Libertyville, New Trier, the Hinsdale, Niles, Wheaton and Naperville high schools are better than privates and send kids to Ivy leagues, Stanford, Northwestern, etc. in great numbers. If I didn't have kids, I'd hate it.
I hate working downtown. The only good thing about it is I can walk to the UC and 300-level tickets are like 25 bucks now on Stub Hub on gamesdays. |

I hear you about family. Grandkids are the only thing keeping me here. If they lived on the south side I'd be in Indiana. The north side in Wisconsin. But we are all smack dab in the middle of the western suburbs. As far as the expenses, I just have to bend over. The grandkids are young but when they become teenagers and don't want to hang with Poppa much anymore it's adios to this political sewer of a state. |

Pilot wise, close to CLT is probably convenient.

Leaving California like droves. Looks like I will follow my boss and be a Las Vegas resident soon. Rents are down 44% in San Francisco. It is not just the taxes, increased crime, decreased public services, poor public school system.
