Been enjoying the chats. I usually only come on during "the silly season". My feeling how it will shake out is: strome will re-sign(may be traded later if they like the return), shaw and seabrook LTIR or contracts moved by some miracle(doubtful), one of dehaan/murphy traded, then as the season gets going younger forwards will be brought in as they feel they're ready to stick. Keith may be a deadline chip if he agrees to waive NTC. That's basically how I see the "plan" coming to light. SB whatever you feel about him always has a direction whether you agree with it or don't. He's very prepared and tactical if anything. Once strome gets signed or traded and the LTIRs happen then a move could be made to find the allusive goalie if any are available. I'm thinking SB is targeting a young(er) goalie that is signed affordably for a couple seasons. The hint on that being his inquiry on matt murray but it fell thru(money). I'd keep an eye on kuemper or georgiev. Whether we want to call it a rebuild or retool I think it's more moving out the old and pricy and integrating younger players (when they're ready). For everyone p*ss'd at SB and "lack of a plan" I understand but the dominoes haven't fallen yet but I can promise you the man is meticulous. We can all argue if he's the right GM or has done a great job but I'm confident there's a plan and it'll show itself in time.

I say you are a visionary. Ha just kidding. But I do agree 100 %. With your analysis. Some mid level contract players will be kept if they deserve it. Katulik for example better produce or he will get moved. Saad contract per a 2nd/3rd wing is too rich for some teams. He has inconsistent seasons. Saad is a luxury and with the salaries + team payroll a concerned league- wide, he became a casualty.
Yet we have to give uo something to get something we need. Top pair mean physical dmen are rarely up for trade. So we got a 3rd pair for basically a third line wing. Looking at the entire picture, it was a sensible trade for us. So we had to retain some salary. Now why did we have to retain salary? Going forward Sakic knew his payroll increase comes with Saad who cost more in salary. Plus the Avalanche is not done with transactions. AT some point they may try to upgrade in net.
In a rebuild you try to bring in new talent. Lots of youth. This is now more an objective to be met than in previous seasons. We are going to struggle trying to make playoffs as our last core pieces get older. It is time finally for rebuild and with Rocky approval. McDonough is out of the way, therefore giving Stan more influence on his plan.
I don't know but I do suspect McDonough held up a dismantling - hence rebuild on the fly. It could be Bowman even wanted to start out as a rebuild on the fly too, just that Bowman probably wanted to accelerate the tear down while McDonough thing was to remain very competitive while gradually adding youth.
Too many people complain about things while conveniently overlooking the whole picture.!
