This is the sort of reasonable debate I can get into!!!

I totally agree that the draft lottery was botched. But, it had nothing to do with NYR. The NHL came up with a ridiculous set of rules for it (them) and in the end the Rangers were in the slot that got the lucky bounce, thanks to a literal poop-kicking by Carolina.
If you want to imply that it was rigged because NY's ball popped up, well that is not a discussion I will enter. No facts = no point.
I completely agree with Jan's point that incurring a penalty for having too many ELC players earning bonuses is probably an unintended consequence of the rule. It's like penalizing a team for drafting well.

This is a post with solid reasoning. Well said Tony.

Id like to see us move all our RFAs, except Georgie, for more pieces of the puzzle, and just let the kids play.

If he's taking exception to an original six team getting their what, 2nd 1OA in uh, damn near 100 years... Christ, how does he feel about the Oilers?

Doesn't deserve? Go watch your team go dry for 54 years, win won and spend the next decade plus sucking and not getting decent picks. Never mind it's the 2nd biggest Hockey market. This is as good for the fans as it is for the sport.

Will Carolina even be the Hurricanes in Raleigh through 54 years?

Leave Jan alone. I hope Tanner starts covering your team.

What a tool.

NYR didnt deserve the pick, they had as many or better than half of the western conference. Either way.

The how many rookies reach their bonus question is a loaded question. How many are playing big minutes, systems with more offense, etc that all feed into the probability that a rookie meets the A & B bonuses. its about impossible question to answer. The Ranger's system will provide ample opportunity for Fox, Laf, and Kakko to earn them.

The rule is there to prevent the big dollar teams from flexing their muscles to create an advantage during the draft or during the season. The NHL gives a very large cushion anyways. 7.5% of potential bonuses is a good amount. Granted NYR should exceed that. Fox, Kakko, Laf, and Igor should earn sizable bonuses.

The rangers are set up to be really good over the next decade. Getting some defense would help with making a run a multiple cups.

in 2018, Carolina had 6 more points than the Rangers but you guys got Svechnikov

we are talking at least 40 years of the NHL not set up fairly up until the early 70's where the worst team wasn't given the right to draft the best prospect available

yet as fans we have to endure being trolled about 80 years with 1 Cup

I don't give a (frank) if Bettman actually put that goddamn Ranger lottery ball in the Bingo thing himself, I aint apologizing for poop

Right on.

Also... while on the topics of gifts... let's talk about a gifted cup.

Carolina picks in recent history (sorry if you missed them in Kindergarten)

2003 - #2
2004 - #4
2005 - #3
2006 - Cup

3 Top 5's in quick order. Not bad for a short tenured layover from Hartford. Almost as if Hockey needed to generate an interest just to keep the team there.
