Well, who really knows whom approached whom and when the seeds for the deal were planted?
I'm going with JB let it be known what he was after early on, and jumped when the opportunity presented.
Hard to think that VGK would choose to help a divisional rival otherwise and not call Florida for example. - dbot
Do you remember the Ehrhoff deal with San Jose? Sometime division/conference rivalry is overblown. |

The same with Nonis on the Luongo deal, just imagine if he was out for a second lunch and missed the call from Keenan. - A_SteamingLombardi
Exactly. Nonis had Luongo. GMMG had Ehrhoff. Every GM gets a deal thrown at them once in awhile. |

Errorhoff - Fidel
Now that’s being a bit harsh. Ehrhoff was very capable. Better than Patrick White’s contribution to pro hockey.
Of all the terrible 1st round picks by the Canucks, is Patrick White the worst? |

Probably in the modern era.

Not like Patrick White. I don’t think he was even ranked as a first rounder. He refused to play junior even though he was drafted twice by junior clubs. He stuck to playing high school league and the Canucks drafted him out of that system. Once drafted he went on to play for US collage. The kid had no intention committing to hockey full time because he knew he didn’t have the skill to compete at that level.
Unfortunately, Nonis and his group of idiots couldn’t see what was so painfully obvious to many. It was a blunder of epic proportions and that’s why Nonis continues to be the worst GM the Canucks have ever hired. |

Only thing clear is how in shambles your narratives are and how Trump desperate you are to spin more lies.
Also if there is no AHL season there is no termination leverage any fool would know that but keep snarking away as if you know more then others. |

Of course so a dump like Sutter, Benn or Roussel would have to be included or you’d have to include Virtanen but at that point you’re losing a lot of secondary scoring - Nucker101
Well in a cap dump package option is a different scenario. Though its getting harder to see those happening now as a lot of money has been spent by many clubs.
So you could see Canucks more likely keeping their known secondary scoring that's cheaper and just hold out for an expansion defensive casualty come TDL.
There still is the Tryamkin factor as well that could be in concert to the above moves. He and Podz coming over together looking like the something they'll need to make room for, so is that by Ferland's LTIR? |

JB was approached by LV after Tanev walked. All that idiot had to do was say yes. - VanHockeyGuy
Sure, LG only approached a division rival for what reason? To help them? Come on man, your narrative is in shambles.
JB obviously had a chat with them earlier and told them that if they had the space and they needed to clear that he take him.
Did you even read carols blog, very disrespectful of you, I have to say.... |

Or....
LVK needs to shed space. They don't want to take back a contract or have to add a sweetener.
They see a team that tried to trade for an 8.5m cap hit so that team can obviously take the full contract. Further, that team also missed out on another dman so they still have a need for a top 4.
When they're close to consummation of the AP deal, they approach Vancouver.
JB doesn't want to negotiate too hard because 1) it's already a good deal; and 2) he doesn't want LVK to shop the deal because they could probably get more from another team.
Both teams got what they wanted. Great deal for Vancouver.
But it was still initiated by LVK. Does that matter? Apparently, in this thread, it's the hill some people want to die on. |

Honestly, this deal looks better and better when you factor in that not only with COVID-19 restrictions making it likely that the Canucks would play in a Canadian team only division AND the fact that riots no matter WHO wins the US election are going to destroy the major cities it's highly likely the NHL might not even have a season this year. Even if they end up rolling contracts over a year because of not having been able to play, the cap would have to drop significantly, leading to probably compliance buy-outs giving JB a chance to fix the roster and his own mistakes with a full year and no expectations to do so.
