Yeah I don’t think Kahun ends up back here. But I think as far as the team is concerned getting deals before arbitration can go a long way.
Arbitration is a weird thing for both players and teams. - Stripes77
Very much so, bad thing about some of these UFA deals, it seems maybe Arb. might be better in there minds. |

We'll see how productive Sam is if he is off the top line and I hope he shows he has it on line 2 if that is where he plays. He definitely won't be 7 million bucks a year worth.

If they are using the base as 50 pts as his career average I believe it but I remember when jack was out and myself and others were like where was Sam? He didn't lift his game. It was like Jerry Huges this past week who was a non-factor in that game when Tre White and Milano were out and he didn't lift his game on the edge. He was there, maybe made some tackles but non-factor. |

I am not the biggest Rhino fan, we shall see what happens and what line he plays on. The market was pretty much set for Rhino with Dadanov and Gallagher. |

Taco- I can appreciate your opinion on girgensons and being overpaid. It's an opinion. I disagree, which is also an opinion.
Girgs was our 5th leading goal scorer, under this very coaching staff. They know better than you or I. I trust their judgment.
My question is :
Can that opinion change ever? Probably not right?
Girgs regresses and score 5 goals, I change my avatar and he clearly undeproduced vs. The contract.
Girgs scores 15 goals any of the 3 seasons.
-you guys - they still overpaid....
What changes this concept? Seriously? What needs to happen for the contact to be fair value or a steal? - Boss34
Girgenson, at $2.2m on the 4th line would be ok value at say 12/12/24.
A steal would be something like 15/17/32. |

Correct. Sam basically assists less bit scores more, historically, away from Jack. His pp60, shot production and other stats stay relatively the same, some up slightly, some down, no big changes.
While hell never be a great 2nd overall, he's at least been a consistent player who never misses games. |

Yes and no. Long term contract moreso.
However, the Arb ruling could pay him say $5.85sh over 2 years. That may balk up his long term contract by not fully allowing 2 years to be discounted as much as Sabres might hope for.
$6.75 - $7.25 is what I would guess on a 5+ year term |

Won't disagree, we've beaten this horse to death. I'll just say that was the eye test you were using, statistically, he does fine away from Jack.
A large part was during Jacks first ankle injury. Sam ended over a ppg with out Jack. |

It's an opinion based on his peers' FA contracts. Guys like him got paid a M less, and guys better than him got his 2M
I also don't rate guys based on goals alone. It's a part of it, but there's a lot of other factors that make a player "good". He's "good" at defending. His purpose is not goal scoring, so it's not a quality I rate in a player like him. His purpose is aggressive forechecking and limiting chances vs the opposition, which he does quite well. At least, he did, with OG Larry.
Player comparables: Johan Larsson, 1.4M, 6G 18 PTS
Derek Grant, 1.5M, 15G, 25 PTS
Kyle Turris, 1.65M, 9G 31 PTS

If he wants long term, think he gets a Gallagher type contract. Rather do a 2yr deal. |

I am so sick of those negative posts, not directed at you
they went out and got the best player out there, gave up no assets
they deserve to be under a microscope, for constant f ups, but this is clearly not one of those issues
I am still shocked we got him - homiedclown

These UFA low ball deals have to be helping with Sams Arbitration - lulags
Arbitrators are not allowed to consider UFA contracts. Only comparables are other arb eligible players, regardless of pandemic.

Can't use UFA deals to set markets in Arb. It's not allowed.
The Gallager contract has been said to be a bad comparable to Reinhart. I would actually use Domi, if anything.

Bad take
Nobody outside of this hockey board makes this deal or believes this.
The sam love around here is unreal.
Liane's not gonna get 40 again? Who predicts this sh't with as much certainty, other than a sammer homer fan.
Laine would have 50 given the ice time sam has been gifted with eichel.
ZERO CHANCE sam gets paid 7 million this year - Boss34

What irritates me, what clearly irritates us, is that we get a hold of talent, and find every excuse under the sun to get rid of it. Like, (frank) off.
Jack Eichel is a bad leader. Trade him.
Sam Reinhart doesn't sign autographs. Trade him.
Dahlin isn't the defenseman I expected him to be. Trade him.
Jokiharju doesn't score many goals. Trade him.
Skinner had a down year. Trade him.
Hall only has one good year left. Release him.
Olofsson is a bad 5v5 goal scorer. Trade him.
Eric Staal is 35 and will suck. Trade him. - TheSabresTaco

How is it bad comparable Taco, Rhino has had better seasons point wise, but Gallagher might be better defensively. |

It's not a back breaker, but, as my earlier discussion with broads alluded to, that 700k could have been thrown at Kahun to be the 14th forward. at the very least, for a year.

when is Dahlin signing - TheSabresTaco
If u were his agent, would u let him sign now?
I wouldn’t
His offensive numbers should go up this year,
which means they can ask for more $$ after the season |

I'd take a 4th line of Kahun-Eakin-Girgens
of course then no room for lazar, okposo and rieder - homiedclown
Agreed
But what would u do with the bolded players?
And what does the 3rd line looks like?
Olofsson-Mitts-Tage I’d guess... risky |
