expansion draft is going to be interesting to see what defensemen Canes choose to protect |

I think they can move him if they package a pick with him. My only thing is, is it actually worth it to move him unless they're making space to sign a forward? |

Hard NO to Gardiner, but if you're interested in making your Expansion Draft choices a little easier, I'm sure the Jets would love to talk to you about one of Pesce, Skjei, or Fleury. Perhaps you'd be interested in a Roslovic and/or Niku? Maybe a Veselainen?? And If Slavin's available, boy do we have a treat for you! We also have this guy called Laine you may have heard of . . . Happy to add him to the discussion for someone like Slavin! |

I was baffled when the Canes signed Gardiner. Already had a pretty deep d corps, plus guys like Bean ready to make the leap. This dilemma seemed inevitable

That would be a hard no. |

Considering the term left, vs the quality of player, I think it would have to be more than that, unless they eat some salary. |

Completely agree that the Gardiner signing was a bit off-kilter. Not only were they deep on D at the time, they were and continue to be deep on the left side. Perhaps they can package Gardiner with Fluery or Bean for a right shot D. That still leaves them with:
Slavin
Skejie
Fluery/Bean
On the left side and would save them 4m. I agree that moving Gardiner on his own at this point looks difficult. |

Should be easy to move a top defenseman in the league |

Yeahhhhhhh Slavin >>> Laine... |

I'm sure the deal could include other pieces to satisfy both sides! (said with fingers crossed that Caroluna would ever go for that!)

The Maple Leafs might take him off your hands if you added a first round pick. 😎 |

while +/- isn't always worth much it is usually notable when a guy is way out of line compared to everyone else on the team
He was -24!! with 30pts and 16:40 atoi. The next closest defender was van Riemsdyk at -7 with 8pts and 14:52 atoi
for 4m? throw in a 2nd and I'd give you futures or maybe a 6th |

They aren't that desperate to move him. It's not like he was bad last year. Just not what they needed. |

Apparently it seems like a certainty, according to TSN. Every time this rumor comes up, I circle back to Carolina. It seems like the best trade fit, IMO. Can't help but wonder if the GM's are in a game of chicken

How is James Tanner going to explain this one away I wonder? lol Gardnier can skate but he is an extremely stupid player. A liability every time he's on the ice. Soft along the boards and never wins a puck battle. But I guess blindly throwing the puck towards the net because you didn't see plays develop and you're afraid to take a hit will give you a great corsi lol |

Someone will take him at 50% retained just to buy him out. Then Pitts will sign him for the same contract.
Or trade him to EDM with 50% retained for 1yr of Russell. |

If we should all have learned one thing its that everyone is moveable. It's just a matter of finding that fit and making it work. We've seen plenty of worse situations get done.
Considering the Ryan Murray and Nate Schmidt trades, Carolina isn't going to get a real asset back. They'll probably have to pay for someone to take him. But someone will. |

Canes were already deep on defense and then signed the worst defensemen that had played on the team with one of the worst defences in the last decade. What did they expect? |

trading their first rounder for Brady Skjei was a bit suspect I thought, especially with the expansion draft coming up
if I was running Carolina I'd probably protect Slavin, Pesce and Fleury, leaving Seattle their pick from Skjei or Gardiner

Yeahhhhhhh Slavin >>> Laine... - FinnGod
Slavin has gone from unknown player to the single most overrated player in the league, in the span of 2 years
If you think he has more value than Laine, you’re insane. WPG would undoubtedly be interested in Slavin, but CAR would be adding significant pieces |

They WON'T, but if Carolina offered Slavin for Laine, 1 for 1, take the deal and run!
It would be a tough pill to swallow every time a Laine hattrick is on sports highlights but Slavin makes the Jets so much competitively better, night in and night out. |
