Yep, I didn't mind Sheary/Simon with Sid and Jake. Yea Simon made me frustrated at times missing golden opportunities but it's whatever. I feel like we could use Simon badly for the third line, he can create offense and has puck control. Something that line needs badly. - 668710
Yeah I mean listen, I’m not some bumhole that thinks Simon is a top line guy. My point has always been that top 6s are rarely made up of 6 top 6 caliber players and sometimes you just gotta plug 3rd line players up there. That’s normal and almost every team deals with it. Our problem now is that we don’t have enough third line guys To fill out the actual third line and some people On here would actively say no to some of them because seeing them fall a few times made them feel sad. Yet Sceviour and Jankowski’s plugginess, that’s ok. Need more of that. |

We're on the same page haha. If JR doesn't add an actual good forward then we're really praying that Poulin makes the jump. |

What wing does Laine play? LW or RW. I think I'd rather trade Zucker for Laine honestly. Sends more salary out as well. - 668710
He plays the LW. Part of me would want to consider moving Zucker instead but he has a NTC and no one is going to waive for Winnipeg so I dont even consider it an option. |

hahaha that is also a factor in my readiness....poor o'le MadMike if the Pens re-sign him... - MattStrat
Ha ha... Yeah.... I'll join RW in the Rutherford "hate club" if Sheary is back. The person who would suffer the worst would be Sid. Kap will have a couple of bad games and Sheary would be right back on the first line butchering perfect passes like always. |

We have one legit third line forward. - 668710
And he’s in the top 6 |

Now that a contract can be negotiated I would take a stab at him based on him resigning. Zucker would be nice trade for him if possible or petts.. or both. Would need rust and his cheap contract to fill out the top 6, especially on rw |

I was speaking of McCann, sure if we could add another top 6 we could move Kap down. However we don't so..I'm speaking of what is being penciled in. Not what we want. So I'll say it this way then, we have 7 of a top 9. Maybe 8 if you bump Tanev up. |

Well apparently Ruth just makes whatever trades he wants lol |

@macpatty, you make some sense there... value is getting granlund, hoffman, etc... for less than perceived market value... there was no reason to use cap space to sign some of the guys early on that JR did. Pens would have had some room to sign one or two of these bargains out there... |

Gotcha. I still think I’d give the 3rd line some decent minutes and if they flounder I’d spread all the talent around 3 lines. Load up when trailing. Interesting team though. Very different. Can’t wait to watch next season (hopefully) |

The other thing is Granlund, Hoffman, Duclair and AA are still out there. I didn't even realize Duclair was still there... |

Yeah and the longer they wait the cheaper I’d assume the sign for on a 1 year deal. But I’m pretty sure we all know jr is done. With forwards anyways.
I think 14 forwards signed is a mistake. Two of those 1millish contracts could be the equivalent of what maybe AA signs for. And considering we have a couple of prospects possibly ready to jump we don’t need so many bottom 6 players. If we had 2 less forwards and signed AA that’s still 13 plus Poulin, O’Connor, Angelo, Légaré.
Too many bodies |

Yea, I agree that he most likely will not get another forward, but he should be looking at the good ones left. |

Rodrigues and Jankowski can be sent down to the A for zero cap hit. Lafferty and Angelo can be sent down for $50k against the cap. Sceviour sucks and shouldn’t get a jersey. Also a $300K cap hit if sent down, which isn’t nothing, but isn’t a lot. We don’t have a log jam. We have a bunch of 4th liners on 4th line contracts that can easily be sent down. I just don’t think Rutherford wants to and legitimately thinks this is a good forward group. |

Reading thru everything it sounds to me like we could sure use Patrick Hornqvist. |

Yea haha, it makes me wonder if more was going on. Like if Horny was getting stale here or if Ruth was just locked on a player and did what he did. |

Problem with signing Sheary is Sid will tell the coach he’s playing with him. No to sheary. - Grinder47
So a winger that’s showed success with Sid would play on his line thereby sending Kap down to the third where they desperately need a quality 3rd line forward, not to mention he’s a righty? Sheary is far from my ideal choice, but I fail to see the major problem here.
Sid’s line was not great against MTL and it had nothing to with Sheary who actually performed well. Sid was injured and and Jake was clearly not 100% yet from his return. |

This is the gamble I believe JR is taking. I said before unless something falls in his lap, I think he’s going to see how Poulin and everyone else shakes out in the bottom six and then make any moves he deems necessary. |

I thought Sheary was one of the Pens better players in that series hahah...some don't wanna hear that though. |

I agree 100% and said that yesterday. If Sid and Jake were in better health I think that line would have been far more effective. |

Isn’t this your exact argument for having Tom Sestito/Reaves? Sid wants him in the lineup so he should be? |
