I swear, if Barnaby comes here and says we aren't even giving Ceci a chance I'm done.

Hahaha I was calling Ceci since the minute we knew Schultz wasn't coming back... But... I thought it was going to be a long pricey terrible contract. Even if it's one year and only 1.25 what was needed was a middle 6 RW haha. Oh my. Now there's even less room for someone like Grandlund who I would really like.

Matheson-Ceci pair Hahaha gross. Serving up hot fresh straight outta the oven turnovers every night.

Codi ceci.... im just done with hockey . How bout that claypool kid hes a stud

I’m pretty shocked he’s been so impactful out the gate. Was never sold on his tour running and thought he was really leveraging his size/speed combo in college to get the job done, though by his senior year it was obvious he had a bright future on Sundays, just thought he needed more time in the oven. Love to see it.

WTFrank!?!?!? Why does Rutherford keep doing this?!?!? And why isn't someone stopping him?!?!?

If there is a silver lining, it's that the contract is only for 1 year

In a quickly dwindling window, one year is a lot.

JR’s done here. About two years past his expiration date. I can confidently say we got worse this offseason despite kicking Johnson out.

I defended JR a lot. I still and do maintain that even the best GMs make a few very bad decisions, but he's gone off the deep end. I lost full faith after the Matheson trade and wasn't shocked when he made all these poor signings, but Ceci signing is the clear coffin nail.

I still think Rutherford is pretty much the poster boy of the league average NHL GM (bar’s not super high), but even good GMs have expiration dates and need to be processed out by their franchises eventually. Rutherford is past due.

Like how the fvck does JR not see the need for a middle 6 RW?

Well past. Hindsight is 20/20, but the writing should have been on the wall for him following the Reaves trade.

Imagine buying out JJ and using the money you saved to sign Ceci.

I’m sorry, I couldn’t help it.

Crazy they have a new 3rd pair costing north of 6 mill, need a middle six winger and already have an effective 3rd pair signed that won't play. What kind of winger(s) could of been had with 6 mill...

So who wants to bet is gonna be the focus of the FO’s blame game as to why this season flops on its face? Who gets shade in pressers and who shows up on the beat’s trade rumors?

My guess is Letang. McCann and Malkin next men up. Marcus Petterssen as the sleeper.

So GMJR signing JJ closed the window.
GMJR signing Ceci locked it.

Whatever next seasons terrible signing will be throwing away the key lol

Ceci for 1.25M is OK. Not my choice tbh but he should do OK.

Some Leafs fans said Ceci had a better year than Barrie. I agree if we are not only talking about points.

Not quite “give him a chance” but right on point. “Ceci had a better season than Barrie” is an eye roller.

Ceci has, by far, the worst hockey IQ of any dman in the entire league. He is a defensive tire fire the likes of which you have never seen....... and yes, I say that knowing you had JJ for a few years

I talk to people who watch Leafs games and they hated Barrie. Ceci was like a plug in tbh. Most of the complaints were because he was making 4M per bit @ 1.25M for the 3rd pairing is an OK deal. Again: I didn’t want him lol

I don’t know Ceci’s game but he got 4M from you guys lol I’m just passing forward what I heard from Leafs fans. He wasn’t particularly good but Barrie was probably more underwhelming to watch.

It's time to consider that Leafs fans don't know how to evaluate defensemen given their views on Gardner and Morgan Rielly respectively.

I will say that Ceci looks a bit better defensively than I was expecting, but I really don't know how you can argue that Ceci was better than Barrie. People's eye tests are just insanely biased towards defensemen that trie to pass the puck forward because it causes turnovers.
