Ha! Kane is a RW. Problem solved!
When he and Panarin were on the same line in 2016, it was amazing to watch.. and Anisimov was the center. Unreal! - WineryDog
yeah I remember that, Blackhawks were crazy for trading Panarin, what the hell were were thinking |

Not even close. They can definitely make an offer without Laf. Like I just said though, Trouba would have to go and that's not going to happen. Trouba, Buch, Miller, Krav, and a 1st is a pretty rich package. Would you make that trade? Or said differently, at what point are you uncomfortable with the trade? That's probably when you hit fair value.
And just to be clear, I'm just spitballing like we're at the bar. Not trying to get into a contentious back and forth here. Speaking of which, it's 5:00 if you round up! - WineryDog
Sorry I clicked the flag on this accidentally when trying to quote. Never did that before so not sure what happens.
Kane is my 2nd favorite player in the league and I wouldn't do anything close to that deal. I agree that it wouldn't take Laf, but it may take Kakko, which I wouldn't do. This team is set up to be competitive for a long time with homegrown talent. There's not need to rush things by giving up a ton of high end assets for a player on the wrong side of 30

The thing is that while he is a stud in terms of leadership and work ethic and faceoffs, Toews is not a sure thing to put up numbers. He was the topic of discussion as to whether he was overrated 6, 7 years ago. My vote at the time was no, he was not. But, this is a different matter now. And 5 assets is too much to give up for basically anyone, IMO. That is not how you keep your line up strong and balanced.
I think we are in too good a place to upset the roster that much for any one player. - Tonybere
Unfortunately, you cant play everyone, eventually there are outliers and sometimes when situations arise, those are the assets you use to try to make your team better.
Hey if we could keep Chytil and trade Strome (to unite the brother) instead with Buch and one of our top D prospects, Id go for that too, I just doubt Hawks would if they were to retain cash. |

I think Kane is still great, definitely not in the same ballpark as Toews who is showing age much more
I mean, on Twitter there are Isles people talking that it would take Barzal++ to get Kane |

No problem. Thanks for the heads up.
I adopted Chicago as my casual rooting interest Western Conference team years ago, which only intensified as they got really good so I started watching them more often. When you focus on Kane, he just does things that are otherwordly. It's not just with the stickhandling, as everyone always notes, but he's so crazy good with the backhand, especially short side on the goalie. My son watches his youtube practice videos and tries to emulate him. It's....hard. |

Thats not even remotely worth it for the Islanders when Barzal is a C and has all the potential to be a 100pt player. |

All that does is show how dumb people are on twitter. |

Watching Kane handle the puck makes me hard, too. |

He's incredibly good, and if we were further along in the rebuild and were looking to add that final piece I would be all for getting him, similar to what the Hawks did with Hossa. I just don't think we are there yet. In a lot of ways I'd be thrilled if they pulled it off, but I just think it would cost too much for Chicago to let him go. |

Yeah. So I just read the letter Chicago sent out. Other than the "media" saying the Rangers sent out a similar letter, the message isn't really the same (although why send out the letter). It makes no mention of trading or "losing familiar faces" as the Rangers letter stated. It just makes reference to the 2 players (Crawford and Saad) for whom it had been speculated on ad nauseum that they might not be there this year.
We'll see what happens but this seems like the same Twitter crap that's always out there. |

Obviously were not dealing with Stan Bowman, but public market value for Toews looks to be something like Lundkvist, Buchnevich, a top 10 protected 1st rd pick and a conditional pick, with 3m retained. |

Kreider is going to go down as a player that people in NY turn on very quickly. 6.5m for an eventual 3rd line wing is going to piss a lot of people off. Obviously can't predict they would win the draft lottery but that contract is looking worse and worse by the second. It's a shame because at the right price he would be a fantastic long term part of the team and an assistant captain but at 6.5 anything short of 20/40 will be a waste. |
