do you remember the old Honeymooners episode where Kramden yells at Alice

"all your life you've been complaining WHEN IS MY SHIP GONNA COME IN, WHEN IS MY SHIP GONNA COME IN? WELL HERE IT IS THE QUEEN MARY!"

Lafreniere is the Queen Mary

- jimbro83

Saw all the re-runs as a kid in NYC. And, perhaps it’s not for everybody (content warning!), but Eddie Murphy’s Ralph and Ed bit from the 80s was pretty damn funny.

He hasn't even been given the chance during a normal season. Give it a little more time, it's not like when they hired Trottier.

Hes got whatever we get this year, and I give him the following year to sort it out. If he cant make strides by then hes gotta go.

Wasn't Mrs. Manicotti the one who taught him all the opera songs when he went on the name that tune show?

Who wrote Swanee river? Hummana Hummana....Ed Norton?

- WineryDog

She was, but the reason he couldn’t get Swanee River, is every time Norton would play a song for him to identify, he would play the intro to Swanee River, Ralph blew up and told him to stop PLAYING THAT SONG! Sure enough, when went on the show it was the 1st song they played. Of course, he didn’t know the name. Hilarious.

apparently like 10 minutes ago the Rangers facebook page put up a video of the team drafting Lundkvist and then Chris Drury saying all these great things about him, but then they deleted it

wonder if that indicates a signing is close and they just jumped the gun with the video

edit: now Rangers twitter has the video, but nothing about signing him though

That would be nice if only to have Brooks stop babbling about it, although pushing that ELC one more year would've been really helpful.

Also, did anyone else notice he said the Rangers view Barron as a win? The kid is a two way center all the way.

that would be great if they could get him signed and announce he'll come over once season starts, or his Swedish season ends

Ive been on the Barron bus. I think the kid could be a stud in the mold of a Jordan Staal type.

He was 55% on draws last year at Cornell. That's right up your alley, brother!

I'd imagine it would be at season's end because he'll have ELC bonuses too, which won't get triggered if he can't meet the minimum games played. Pure speculation on my part here.

Didn't he want to stay in the Swedish league this year? Probably have to wait till its over.

The funny thing is (not really) that if Barron were to come in and score 11 shorties as a rookie, some people would still find negatives!!

The funny thing is I was trying to find his extended stats somewhere on ECAC website but couldnt find it. I see him, atleast, as our 3C of the future.

I found it in an article on him. No official stats out there that I saw.

One of the coaches in my son's club is a Northeast guy and worked at a prep school that played against Barron. Basically, Barron is a Canadian who went the route a lot of US kids do, since he went to a Prep school instead of Juniors. Hi steam played a lot of the big US schools/teams. Very similar to Hayes' career except Barron was about a year behind. If he was drafted a year later, he would have went a lot higher. He's ECAC POY just like Fox was (not saying he'll be as good as Fox) and played in a defensive system so he's not all offense. In a year or so, he could be a huge part of the team. I'm pretty high on him.

And, though these things don’t always translate to success in the bigs, he was a star on what was, for a change, a top-tier Cornell squad.

Me too. He will likely get atleast 1 year in the AHL first to get his feet wet and ready.

Stating the obvious, but these Ivy League kids are also smart, on top of being good at hockey. There's no sports scholarship bringing them in. They need to be accepted to the schools like everyone else (okay, maybe they get a little bit of help but not a guarantee). I think that translates well to the NHL and becoming a pro.
