Teams cycle the puck and play physical brand, contesting pucks everywhere. The Blackhawks have not been buying into playing that way - far too many players won't. See Las Vegas series as an example. DeBrincat and Strome represent two forwards whom don't contribute much if they aren't putting up points. If those two would cycle and play a physical style, our comoete level would increase. - jhawk59
Too many guys named "Sniper" on the team. Sharp and Hossa were snipers as well but also multi dimensional. |

Thanks, rpeters.
Not only was Boqvist still too young but he was promoted way too early from Rockford. He would've been best served playing in the AHL for a full season first.
He wasn't lights out with the Hogs as he was playing the same conservative style to hone his defensive game which was a smart move.
Also, he barely showed off his electrifying offense in the minors so I don't see why it made sense to promote him to play that same conservative style in the NHL.
It's not out of the question for him to start this coming season in Rockford but imagine he will be one of the Hawks starters. - Theo Fox
So someone on SCH asked me if statistically Boqvist's development has been stunted by his rush to the NHL. Again, key word is statistically so I looked at his NHLe value and at his current comps based on that value then expanded to a few others.
For current NHL d-men, Theodore is the closest comp for Boqvist in terms of development trajectory. The other top 5 are Roman Hamrlík, Mathieu Schneider, Ed Jovanovski and Jokiharju (lol).
I thought maybe some here might be interested so I'll post Theodore below and then the rest I screenshot in another comment so it's not so huge.
The Theodore comp is interesting to me because I know he's coveted by a lot of people on this board but he also shows why people need to be patient with evaluating Boqvist. Theodore played a bit in the NHL when he was 20-21 but he became a regular at 22 and really broke out as a top 4 d-man at 23 and then top pairing at 24-25 this past season. Age always plays a huge factor in development curves and Boqvist just turned 20.
Personally, I'd have liked for Boqvist to have spent a bit more time in the AHL honing the defensive side of things so he could focus on offense at the NHL level but that's just me. It'd be super nice if he just breaks out like Hughes this last season or McAvoy or someone else at a similar age but he's still got plenty of time and is on the right track imo.

Here are the rest for anyone interested.
Karlsson because Boqvist was compared to him the most during his draft year
Hughes because he's from the same draft and will inevitably always be linked (though remember Hughes is almost a full year older than Boqvist
McAvoy, Heiskanen, Fox and Makar because they're some of the top young d-men in recent years
Keith for the Hawks connection

Jay Z just tweeted that blackhawks could be making an announcement about the Organizational direction soon. in a later he says he expects Stan to be part of things one way or another. - kmw4631
If they wanted to can Stan they would have done it before the draft and trading and UFA periods. So Stan moves up to President. Then do they make MacIsaac or another in house candidate GM or bring someone from the outside?

Sweet! Thanks LBR. I hope he gets more comfortable playing his game soon. I'm guessing year 3 is when we start to see what he is really made of.

One is the kid they get in the 2021 Entry draft with others being Boqvist, Mitchell...te rest of the Lucas Carlsson, and two guys that are also comfortable on with side, Nicolas Beaudin, and Wyatt Kalynuk, and add bumper position/ defenseman Alec Regula will all be given ample chances to be players
Alex Vlasic will be afforded the time to adjust.
Wyatt Kaiser you wait for and he is our mailman, and plays similar to te smaller new age guys already close to getting auditions.
There is no Hedman in that group.
Owen Power
So long term they are one dominant big defender, and one big aggressive scoring wing from being close to being added to conversations for Stanley Cups...
Umm, Goalie? Long term they have Kane, Toews, Hossa, Sharp to replace up front. - rpeters01
We just drafted commesso in the 2nd rd. If/when he's ready in 7-8 yrs maybe we'll be ready to compete for the cup lol

I don't agree. I think if a GM knows he is weak in an area, say contract negotiations, he will hire someone who is stronger in that area. If you know the game, you know what kind of players are needed to be successful. A good scouting staff helps with that.

NHLe is NHL equivalency is a calculation of how a player’s point production in their given league would translate to the NHL (over an 82 game pace). This is useful for forwards and then d-men that are meant to be two-way top 4 or star producers, like hopefully Boqvist will be. It also calculates probability of being a NHL regular based on improvement over time in the development years.
There isn't a standardization of stats at all league levels (there are for many with tracking project now but not all) that can be used for the defense side of things, unfortunately, so at least statistically we're looking at these a bit one-dimensionally. The rest we have to observe ourselves and use the stats that are accessible at the NHL level (of which there are many).
Here's straight from HockeyProspecting for more info:
- Includes every skater, drafted in the first seven rounds, from 1990 to Present as well as select undrafted stars and 1980s drafted Hall of Famers.
- It includes over 300 eligible draftees for the 2020 draft.
- In total, the tool includes over 5,000 players
- NHLes are used as a way to standardize player’s offensive score over time. We’re looking for higher numbers at younger ages. Those are the biggest indicators of future star-potential and becoming an NHLer, in general.
- The tool provides the players’ probability of turning into an NHLer (200+ games) and probability of turning into an offensive star in the NHL (0.7+ career ppg for a forward and 0.45+ career ppg for a defenseman). |

Didn’t VGK make a good run with a bunch of 2/3/4 defensemen and middle-6 forwards coming out of the expansion draft?
They had 4 blue-liners with 20-22 minutes ATOI (over 60 games each).
If you have basically all defensemen at 2/3/4 level, with forwards who consistently are responsible in the dzone - being in position to help the defensemen quickly transition the puck out - which is what Vegas had.... - StLBravesFan
I believe your reinforcing what Mohel is saying, all those Vegas 2/3/4s were able to get them close, but you need a #1 stud to get you to the ultimate prize. |

Good stuff, LBR. I started to learn more about NHLe value this past year and many seem to view it as one of the more reliable measures for projecting a prospect's potential. Something like that so hope I described that right. |
