Seabrook to retire and sign a 4 year 5M contract to be head coach.

Funny. He's older and has been in the NHL much longer, so it couldn't hurt.

I think over time Beaudin will emerge as solid 2-way players on the blueline.

I hope none of these young guys are handed a spot this season. Even Boqvist who got to play last year, he should have had to do more to earn a spot. He wasn't ready and it showed.

Lots of choices, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Hawks move a guy or two if they feel they aren't a fit.

The Norris trophy has morphed into an award fro a high attacking offensive man.

I get where you are going a guy who replaced Duncs and hopefully is bigger stronger to take care of physical business in his end too.

If they feel comfortable with Boqvist's ability to understand the entire 200 feet, they will eventually let him loose. There is plenty of upside offensively.
Makar he isn't at this point, but Makar got stronger taking the college route, and though he is smart defensively let;'s not over credit his play as a defenseman.

So the hawks have to get a "Miro Heiskanen" type maybe a guy a bit bigger than 6' 1" 188, but you get the idea.

We dont know on any of the new adds on dee...we have to play to win with them, right?

- wiz1901

Heiskanen another defenseman i like a lot and that damn Esa is looking really really good, Dallas has got 2 very promising pieces playing the blue line.

100%. At the time, Carlsson was the guy to bring up based on performance. I forget if he was injured or not, but he was playing the best.

On your last point, yes, I would expect that the Hawks move a couple assets for better forward options.

Don't they already have a Crane Kenney in Bob Pulford? Someone you hear about but never see.....
- powerenforcer

Crane Kenny actually does something. He did the TV contract, bought the rooftops and probably ran the hotel project?

Yes, you are right about that - doing something. I was just pointing out a "behind the scenes" guy.

I don't think he would go into coaching. And if he did, he needs to be an assistant coach for at least one season.

One would think that if Brookbank can be an assistant coach then Seabrook could be just as good if not better. Agree, though, that experience is very much needed, even for Brookbank.

Colliton and Brookbank graduated too early from AHL coaching to the NHL. Adding in Mitell was also a head scratcher. It's not like they are coaching savants.

Novel in their approach? Sure. Geniuses? No.

The tail end of the season and if we are not a playoff team, I would like to see Beaudin, Carlsson, Boqvist and Mitchell in the same line up. I struggle to envision Kalynuk too unless he is in as a replacement for one of those just mentioned. Keith and Murphy woukd be the veterans. If Keith or Murphy injured, in their stead go with a veteran, namely, Seabrook.

I would not be surprised following one even short AHL season, that Kyrz has improved and is ready for a crack in the NHL. :all the dmen prospects were to prove themselves worthy of NHL trial after a solid AHL showing, there is a pleasant problem whom goes, whom stays. Mix and match. Vlasic, Rogula and maybe others will look promising at some point too!

NHLe is NHL equivalency is a calculation of how a player’s point production in their given league would translate to the NHL (over an 82 game pace). This is useful for forwards and then d-men that are meant to be two-way top 4 or star producers, like hopefully Boqvist will be. It also calculates probability of being a NHL regular based on improvement over time in the development years.

There isn't a standardization of stats at all league levels (there are for many with tracking project now but not all) that can be used for the defense side of things, unfortunately, so at least statistically we're looking at these a bit one-dimensionally. The rest we have to observe ourselves and use the stats that are accessible at the NHL level (of which there are many).

Here's straight from HockeyProspecting for more info:
- Includes every skater, drafted in the first seven rounds, from 1990 to Present as well as select undrafted stars and 1980s drafted Hall of Famers.
- It includes over 300 eligible draftees for the 2020 draft.
- In total, the tool includes over 5,000 players
- NHLes are used as a way to standardize player’s offensive score over time. We’re looking for higher numbers at younger ages. Those are the biggest indicators of future star-potential and becoming an NHLer, in general.
- The tool provides the players’ probability of turning into an NHLer (200+ games) and probability of turning into an offensive star in the NHL (0.7+ career ppg for a forward and 0.45+ career ppg for a defenseman).

Statement from the Blackhawks:

We recently said goodbye to a pair of popular, two-time champions and acquired some new players via trade and free agency. We understand it was tough to see those respected veterans go and realize you may have some questions about our direction. We'd like to address that direction and share why we're hopeful for the future of Blackhawks hockey.

We're committed to developing young players and rebuilding our roster. We want more than another window to win; we want to reach the summit again, and stay there -- an effort that will require a stockpile of emerging talent to complement our top players. The influx of youth and their progression will provide roster flexibility and depth throughout our lineup.

We were already the youngest team in the 2020 playoffs and several Blackhawks experienced that intensity for the first time; this will help to further establish a culture that embraces the grind of improvement driven by competitors who are relentless, engaged and motivated by a team-first mentality to win.

As our young players develop and learn how to win consistently, they'll make some mistakes. Inevitably, we'll miss the mark sometimes, too, but we'll communicate openly with you on this journey together.

We know that what comes next must be more than just words, and that inspires us.

Kind of lackluster, even in announcing that. Supposedly Stan is going to be on the upcoming 130pm (CT) episode of Blackhawks Talk podcast, but I doubt he'll divulge any more "details."

Yes, official statement to affirm a rebuild with a youth movement. As many have argued before, this decision should have been made a while ago.

Either way, I'm happy they are going with this plan and this statement holds them to sticking to it rather than sitting on the fence or striving for two things.

Good time to do it, given that no fans will be at the games anytime soon anyway.

Can't wait to hear what Toews, Kane and Keith have to say. Who wants out?

The statement itself is pretty bland. However, I imagine the fireworks will commence now with different roster decisions.

Will Strome be re-signed and retained or re-signed then traded?

If he's traded, the Hawks need to fill his spot with a new center, preferably one who can play 3C, i.e. defensively sound and solid skater.

Are any of the remaining core going to remain loyal to help in this rebuild or waive their NMCs to go play elsewhere?

How much longer will Murphy and de Haan be on the team as they could be moved for futures.

All that amongst other things.
