I can't say Doc was my all-time fav.. but I also can't say he wasn't lol. I loved Doc, but yes.. also loved Gary Thorne, probably because I heard him call 3 Cup victories. Guy was freaking epic. Doc may be a bit more colorful with his choice of words.. not many have his vocabulary lol. Hard to pick. Doc's voice could get a little winey, we have to admit, while Thorne can sometimes be a bit overbearing.

I'm attempting to critique 2 giants in the industry.

Am I the only guy who really didn't care for his style or pace?? Doc wasn't bad just not really my style. Being a west coaster I always preferred Kenny Albert or my favorite Sam Rosen as play by play..

Anyways.. A true legend. Cheers Doc.

- dozerD10

Kenny Albert and Sam Rosen are great guys to listen too. I think Sam is losing it a bit as he ages. Some of these better play by play guys really make the game more enjoyable and some other guys really don't. Certainly there is a bit of personal taste involved.

Doc was great! He somehow made watching hockey even more enjoyable. And as a Devils fan there were so many great moments, but with acknowledged recency bias. "Henrique, its over!" still resonates.

Wish him all the best in retirement!

Me as well. Tho I am disappointed to see him go. The US broadcasts are generally terrible, but he was the exception. It's a big loss in terms of growing the sport in the US, and hopefully some quality replacements aren't far away.

All the best in retirement Doc. You have certainly earned it.

Totally agree! The 3 worst US announcers that immediately come to mind are from Florida, Tampa and Colorado. Why are they always YELLING?

Best of luck Doc!

fingers crossed everything works out with the 2 of them. It would be nice to have a pair of 80pt players again. 1st time since Kovy and Parise we'd have 2 capable of that.

Rangers haven't won in 26 years. We haven't won the cup in 17 years.

Not making fun of anyone but that is a long drought in the NY Metro area.

Wow!

1975 doesn't role off the tongue like 1940 but it's getting close time wise.

Yeah, they fought their way through those playoffs....both years. Was the impetus of the joke that said, "I went to a boxing match and a hockey game broke out"

Devils re-signed Nick Merkley to a 1 year deal at $875k. It’s a 2 way deal.

Plan the parade!

Merkley has played 7 games this year putting up 2 goals and 2 assists playing overseas in for Assat Pori of the SM Liiga. BONUS - 27 PIMs and he's +5...

hey question for you guys, do you think if the Devils had taken Braden Schneider at 18, they still would have gotten Dawson Mercer at 20 anyway?

Probably not, as he likely wouldnt have been there. Mercer was far and away the BPA at 18, I'm still shocked he actually fell tbh. If the Devils didnt take him at 18, he would've gone at 19 and not gotten back to them. Wasnt worth risking passing on him if they had him at the top of their list(which they clearly did)

I suppose it depends on what Calgary's draft board looks like. It seems that Zary was really their guy but maybe they only start trading down because they Devils take Mercer, for example.

I think Devils never had Schneider on their radar in the first place because if they really wanted him we could have just taken him. And a lot of people are saying the Mukhamadullin pick is really wild but I've read things saying that Russian prospects might have been undervalued in this draft for a number of reasons.

If Rangers really wanted Schneider I think it was a smart move to trade up to make sure you get him. But I don't think it's the huge loss for the Devils as a lot of fans think.
