If Benn is the vet on the 3rd pairing, he can play both right and left, leaving whatever rookie to play their strong side – even rotating rookies in and out and moving Benn to the opposite side.
That is true, and although I haven’t been a fan of either, I have complimented both this past season.
And also my personal view of either person’s capabilities doesn’t mean that I have to trash Benning, he used Stecher to the best of Stecher abilities and let him walk in the end.
He still likes Green, so far, so good enough for me. I would certainly like Gallant over Green, but it is what it is. - Makita

Fair, Benn was garbage though and I hope he doesn't play regularly.

Oh ya, I agree – just with the current makeup of the roster, I don't really see it playing out any other way. Green won't play two rookies on the bottom pairing, so Benn is the only one left.
Everyone just skipping over Juolevi? He's the most NHL ready/deserving. - NewYorkNuck
I already have him as the #5 defenseman, so I was assuming everyone else has him in the same spot and the final 2 or 3 spots would be up for 1 or 2 of the other AHL guys.
I too have been pleasantly surprised with Benning’s moves to date. Nothing crazy, accepted that he’s gonna have to be patient and let some questionable contracts expire...... - Pacificgem
Gillis couldn't build a core if his life depended on it. His success is directly linked to better GM's that built a solid core for him. Sure he added a couple minor pieces to that 2011 run(plus Erhoff, who was more than a minor piece), but the players we relied on to be that good were already in place. - Retinalz
True. The entire core was the work of the former GM's. Gillis record in the draft says a lot about how good he would be at building a new core. Not to mention that (frank)ing contract to Luongo showing what kind of long term vision he has for a team....
Bold, Schmidt is going to help a lot but I think you are underselling Stetcher, overselling whoever our AHLer is.
I also think Hughes looks worse next to Myers compared to Tanev. As I assume Edler Schmidt will be our shutdown pair.
I agree that goaltending likely takes a hit. Luckily we've got an improved offense to overcome those deficiencies.... - belcherbd
I have serious doubts that Myers and Hughes will be the top pairing. Just as much as I doubt that Edler Schmidt would be a top pairing. It really only makes sense to make Hughes and Schmidt top pairing to me. Edler or Myers cannot keep it together with those kind of minutes.

We'll see I I think they'll spread the "wealth". Both Schmidt and Hughes are excellent puck movers, it makes sense to split them up and pair them with guys who struggle at that element. Edler in particular needs someone to move the puck.

Hamhuis says hi.
I think I agree, Nonis deserves the accolades that Gilles gets.

Juolevi - Benn
Rafferty, Chatfield
The current depth. It'd be nice to have another nhl caliber guy to rotate into that group as I don't think Chatfield is an NHL Dman and Benn was real bad last year.
