Well that's a start he could rise more. His talent already shows better playmaking and passing abilities that would compliment Bo.

When you scroll through twitter and HB I guess. I'd like to see as much dedication to showing why he is overlooked by the coaches so much aside from this imaginary spite for being drafted by the NHL.

It’s write off.

No one is writing him off. People are discouraged as they should be

- CanuckDon

Typo my bad. Fair enough. Results are facts. We'll just have to wait until he comes over. Perhaps on NHL ice surface that seems to suit his game style (Hlinka tourney stand out) better we might see if Podz gets there for the discouraged.

Perhaps but there was a whole lot more showing in Bo's game back then.
- boonerbuck

I think Benning and company have tried to find players who are always working at their game and never satisfied with where they are at regardless of talent. I know Bo wasn’t their pick but he fits the mould.

I'm going by pro reports and observation. I don't buy into spite theory its not logical. What is factual is that he's not getting favorable development opportunities. Its okay he might learn to be more productive with less.

Podkolzin top 6 vrs Podkolzin bottom 6

Podz produced as well at his peer level. He was ranked 3rd overall in his draft year. Signing KHL deal had teams shy away. Plus he was being deployed later in his draft year between many levels of junior to pro leagues that effected his production.

Again its not a player to player comparison but that workhorse talent needs development time to produce consistently rising up levels into pro.

It will be interesting to see him at the wjc that’s for sure

What a lot of sceptical Canuck fans at the time(myself included) overlooked, was how great Bo's upward trajectory was, even during his draft season. I believe he was projected to be more of a mid or late first rounder after the first half of the OHL season, but then he took off down the stretch and had a great playoffs too. If he had those numbers from day one of the OHL season, it's possible that he may not have even been available for the Canucks to select. Then he built off of that success and had an even better season next year in the OHL.

Guys like Petey, Boeser and Hughes also improved their play and production the year after being drafted.

Meanwhile guys like Jake and Juolevi(also Jensen and Shinkaruk before them) didn't really improve production and level of play during their draft+1 seasons and people made excuses for them when in reality the were early red flags that they may not live up to their draft status.

It's less black and white with Pod since he's in a men's league and was bouncing between leagues last year, but you have to admit, so far he's not exactly putting up the numbers you'd hope he would, even considering the context.

Again, not saying he won't make it into the NHL, just that his upside should be questioned.

Well there will always be questions until there are results. People did the same with Petey and QH on their size for the NHL game. Podz is a different talent question and his NHL game might be better then his international one. Ice size alone plus talent level that he would compliment are factors that could produce better results.

You could’ve said the exact same about Jake a year after he was drafted. Production is the best indicator for future performance.

Horvat was projected to be an above average 3rd line centre by the exact same armchair GM’s, he proved them wrong over time, I think Podkolzin will do the same.
- Makita

Yeah they kept that up for Bo right into these playoffs. After that performance that ended the slight. I hope Podz does it in less time. The Canucks will need it to be competitive during flat cap era.

No JV had weight and speed advantage in same ice size against smaller players. When he moved up in levels his toolkit didn't keep up to his toolbox.

Podz has a cerebral playmaking aspect to his game that JV doesn't. Plus he can be more efficient with his pressure play in NHL ice size. That's something we will have to wait on as best indicator production factors for future performance.

They should have traded Hogs to AZ You know I don't get too high or low on prospects moving up to new levels of play. Things even out over time. Its making the Canucks and their impact that we should reserve judgement on.
