I have no idea. I mean, he hasn't been a staple NHL player, sort of tweener. But I'm sure JB sees more in him than just an AHL body – there wouldn't be much reason to sign him now if he didn't think he could play.

Maybe JB has some things on the burner? Maybe a Sutter buyout, maybe a trade of JV or Gaudette or Rous?

There has to been some sort of movement in that bottom 6 before the season starts.

Wrong, he's a top 6 player

Lol, pure clickbait.

"He’s a young player," said Jim Benning to Patrick Johnston of The Province. "He’s being given a new start with a new team. He’s a depth guy but we’ve got hopes for him."

They do say in the article: "Hawryluk, in a vacuum, is not a top-six forward. His gritty game is ideally matched for a third-line role. But sometimes a "third-line player" can absolutely fit into a top-six in a complementary role."

Basically he could be on Bo's line if JV falters.

Is Hawryluk an AHL signing? Because now we’ve got four centers in the bottom six, Gaudette, Beagle, Sutter and now Hawryluk.
- Pacificgem

I think he's intended to be a 13th forward who will compete for a bottom 6 job at training camp. I really hope this year there's no hesitation when it comes to scratching/waiving Beagle, Sutter, Eriksson whenever there is a better option.

Maybe they can recoup that third round pick from the Schmidt trade that everyone's been losing sleep about

I think they're sitting on a Sutter buyout as a last resort if he can't make a trade in the next little while.

I think he made it a 2022 3rd round pick because he knows he won’t be employed by the Canucks anymore so it will be the next GM’s problem

3D chess Benning strikes again – such a forward thinker. So if he's able to get a 2021 3rd rounder, he'll be a messiah?

Let’s see how many days we can continually talk about the Canuck’s bottom six.

Improving the bottom 6 one piece at a time. It'd be nice if they could find a way to bring Leivo back as well.
- NorthNuck

I think the Hawryluk signing means that Leivo ain't coming back and I find it baffling that NO ONE is concerned or even mentioned the fact that Leivo broke his fawking KNEE CAP (gross) and hasn't played since before Xmas - expecting him to be a shell of his former self is a long shot. By the time he gets back into a game it could possibly be 13 months from his last game!

Makes one wonder what JB saw in him at that draft. If he was going to take him over Demko... Hopefully they can get him back to a good development spot.

Would love to bring Leivo back too. The Canucks just have a GLUT of forwards – some trades would definitely need to happen.

Top 6: Petey, JTM, JV, Horvat, Pearson, BB
Bottom 6: MacEwen, Gaud, Rous, Sutter, Beagle, Motte
Cusp: Hawryluk, Hoglander, Lind
Questionable/AHL: Baertschi, Eriksson, Ferland

- NewYorkNuck

Don't worry, 9.5 million will be freed up once JB tells LE and MF to mutually terminate or be placed on LTIR against their wishes. It's all going to be ok and will be fine before he starts making moves before next month... or is it before next season, the narratives are confusing...

Kneecap isn't as bad as tearing an ACL or MCL. It's just bone healing and phsyio.

The 13 month thing is an issue, but players in LA and Detroit whoever else didn't make the playoffs won't have played in 10 months at that point. Is there a huge difference in those months off?

He is apparently quick. Was a junior scoring star and a high draft pick. 5’11, 195, so short but well built. Hits hard, works like Motte. Senators fans wanted him back. I barely remember the kid so I can’t say from personal experience. Like that he is only 24!
