Giggsy and I already pointed out that Mikheyev will win his case and be awarded the $2.7M because, Leafs.. That's why...

I am going off the athletic article.

1.45 M would be very high and unexpected but you can rule it out.

Not sure about the 'rule it out' bit...

well, I think Giggsy will finally hold my hand, but other than that, no. No kick backs... Why do you ask?

Putting the cap situation into perspective . . . there are 12 forwards, 7 defensemen and 2 goalies under contract on the NHL roster right now, which when you include buried contract value for Engvall and retained transactions for Kessel amounts to $80.3 million.

If Sandin is not going to be playing, his $900k is not there. If Robertson doesn't make the roster, his $822k is not there. That leaves $3.2 million to sign Dermott & Mikheyev and have a roster of 12F, 7D, 2 G.

If Mikheyev comes in at $1.3, Dermot comes in at $1m, that would likely leave room for Barbanov or Anderson or whomever. With a couple of weeks of time, Engvall would likely fit under the cap and could be called up . . . . there's not a lot of room, and in the event of injuries to low cost players, there's less room to replace them under LTIR rules if we sit too close to the cap.

Bang on ...Need to see how the league works out any Covid "taxi - squad" issues.

But I think this is exactly how it plays out. Robertson and Sandin start off the roster unless they push their way in. Engvall vs. Barabanov for that 12th spot b/c they'll need some PK minutes.

I told them that if they overpay Mikheyev, then there's a better than decent chance that Holl could be traded. They work for the NHL, so they're obviously Leafs fans, so they agreed immediately.

This is like the arbitrator giving Anton Forsberg a one-way contract despite him not having played a single game in the NHL the previous year.

The look on the dudes face after he dropped that ball. The look of a man that's praying to God that that ball doesn't end up winning, 'cause he knows he done (frank)ed up.

Thereโ€™s also some consideration for who you expose for the upcoming expansion draft - you have to have enough guys with NHL experience.

Iโ€™m too lazy to look it up, but it is a thing.

The super low number of games is going to be his downfall at arbitration, which is probably doing the Leafs a favour if they award two years at a cheap price.

I like Mickey. He's a legit top 9 NHLer and has a decent ceiling if he can stay healthy and play with good players.

- gravyface

If by Top 9 you really mean Middle 6, then I think you're right on the money.

I think so far based on what he had to work with money and player availability, team needs and wants ... KD gets a solid B+ low A- ... color me impressed.

Upgraded the defense.. Adding goaltending depth.. Getting Simmonds, Thornton and Vesey to upgrade the bottom 6. I like the job he's done so far..

Mike Johnson and Pierre Lebrun speculated on leafs lunch that maybe mikhayev just wanted to get paid so his contact doesnโ€™t get drawn out and go to camp when there is no money left.

Both said he has zero leverage so not sure why he filed as it favours the leafs.

Like so many soon to be ex's told me "it's complicated". They'll need to renegotiate the CBA again. The PA will want to maximize the number of players and payroll. Bottom feeders will want little or no taxi squads or have MLSE pay for everything (enjoy Venezuela Gary!) and teams like the Leafs will see an advantage of having everybody available or being able to trade for guys that other teams can't afford to keep.
