Im curious how they set up the regular season.

I was thinking of a similar situation like they had during the playoffs and set up a sort of bubble system. They could set up 2 rinks in each division (doesnt have to be at the actual stadium) to play out series'. They could split the arenas 4 x 4. Minimize traveling. Try to make road trips concise, a road trip would involve playing the 4 teams that play in that building. etc. etc... I dunno rough thought.

That's the key. The NHL hasn't committed to a schedule yet, or how many games will be played.

It’s a long shot that the players would agree to another bubble that keeps them away from their families for a majority of the season

To have one or both of them go right from the tournament to training camp to the season without any break is risky due to the lack of rest in between.

What? They're 19-year-old professional athletes. They're not over exerting themselves playing in a two week tournament with zero travel.

If anything, it lowers the risk since they'll be much closer to game shape when they get to camp.

Because if it ends up being a full season and the team makes the playoffs, it’s extra games added on to the ledger. Every contest, especially if there is a post season, does have a bit of a cumulative effect. If season is shortened and there is a break, different story.

definately would be very beneficial for both those players to go and dominate..

They're 19 and in phenomenal shape. If they're not injured, they might need a day off after the tournament to recuperate. The rookies all play in rookie tournaments in normal years before training camp, and I've never seen anyone gassed after those. The cumulative effects you're talking about don't kick in until after 30.

Plus, the only way the season is anywhere close to a full 82 games is if they decide to start all future seasons in February. It's almost pretty much guaranteed that they'll have reduced travel as well this year and that wears down players as much as the games do.

Not wanting them to go because they could get injured is a valid concern. Not wanting them to go because they'll get tired is a little silly.

It wont be a bubble but it will be a means to minimize traveling by keeping everyone in one place and gives a bit more control.

Each division has 2 play arenas.
Each division is split into 2 groups.
Youd have, for example, Metro A away playing Altantic B home one week. Thats 16 games played, in one location. Its not treated like a bubble but location minimizing keeps it consolidated.
Every week prior to travel and a day before play week everyone gets tested for COVID.
The expectation will be that theyre professionals and will do the right thing. Social mingling is done responsibly otherwise its a healthy scratch with no-pay and a COVID test.

Yadda yadda... obviously Ive thought a lot about this.

If NHL hasn’t started yet it’s a no brainer to let them play

I just think it is pretty crazy...not to mention absolutely exciting for you Ranger fans....to have TWO young studs, at THAT level who STILL qualify to play as "Juniors". Wow....gotta like your future!!! That's some good young talent!

I know they have lots to decide on still. But, I believe the NHL is still steadfast against bubbles for the next season. The last thing I read was that they were thinking of extending the stay of teams in each destination to play ALL the games they normally would against that team in one trip, as an attempt to limit travel.
I don’t think it’s the greatest plan, but again, it’s still being fleshed out.

Thats essentially how my idea works, but I think mine would account for far more games than they plan to play. However, eventhough theyre not planning to do a literal bubble, the thought is to keep everything to a limited amount of arenas and locations.

But, their number one goal is to play in front of fans, if there is any possible way of doing so. Can't do that without playing at home.

so there's no doubt in my mind that Bitetto is playing 20 games or Hajek is playing 42 games this season, maybe even both will happen, so both can meet eligibility requirements for expansion draft

In addition, all NHL teams must meet the following minimum requirements regarding players exposed for selection in the draft:

* One defenseman who is a) under contract in 2021-22 and b) played in at least 40 NHL games the prior season or played in at least 70 NHL games in the prior two seasons.

unless they plan on exposing Lindgren or Tony D, they HAVE to make that happen.

People still jumping off buildings because Jack Johnson will play a lot need to take note of this

It will likely be Bitetto, cant imagine Rangers would let Hajek go for nothing.

I wonder if they update the games played requirements if we have a shortened season. If the season is 48 games long maybe "b)" goes to 20 games the prior season or at least 50 games in prior two seasons

well if Hajek doesn't play 42 games this season, he won't even meet eligibilty requirements to be exposed anyway

to me, they gotta get that taken care of right away, I don't think they wanna be in the position of neither one them them meeting requirements and then being forced to expose Lindgren or Tony D, or even worse GIVE JACK JOHNSON A ONE YEAR EXTENSION

If the NHL season gets shoved further I'd let them play. More for staying in game shape than for proving anything. Give the kids notes on weak areas to work on and treat it like camp. They're not bubble boys - if they get banged up they're young and will heal fine.

On another topic, who do you think the New York Penguins are gonna draft this coming year?

in a shortened season they should definitely adjust these requirements, they are kind of nuts really

at least we have Kinkaid signed to solve that problem
