You can't force a player to go on LTIR, it has to be signed off of by league doctors.

People just need to accept Seabs and his contract are going to be around one way or another for 4 more seasons. His contract isn't a problem at the moment and won't be in the near future. Be nice if people would just go to CF and use the buyout calculator to see how a buyout looks.
- Elbows15

I looked buyout calculator on cap friendly it doesn't benefit the hawks to buy seabrook out. You are probably right have live with that contract for 4 more years.

Seabs actual total salary is $20.5 for the next four years, although his cap hit is much higher. So $5.125/yr. in annual salary. Let’s face it, Seabrook could not lay a hit this past year due to his shoulder injury and it was obvious watching him play, so if the surgeries help him with some mobility and he’s able to play the body, $5M is not bad for a smart defenseman with high character. Would I rather not have the $6.8M cap hit at this stage of his career, yes, but it may not be as bad as we think, time will tell. I would rather have Seabrook showing the way for our young D than anybody else on the team.

He's going to be around for the duration of the contract. He will bite his tongue and be a 6-7 Dman and work with all of the kids. That's what proud (and grateful) employees do. Why would he want to bounce around the league as an unwanted player who thinks he can still play at a top level.

Otherwise, Stan's only other option is to call Lou Lamorello and get the recipe for how he made Stephan Robidas and Joffrey Lupul completely disappear forever.

So reflecting on the past couple days, is it safe to say McD had a lot more to say about the makeup of the team than some thought? I wonder if it got to the point where Danny said "I am tired of always being in these showcase games and losing". It's time we start making a name for ourselves. We don't need the leagues charity. Or put it another way, we don't want to be the next "lovable losers".

Most GM's in this league are like reckless hunters....shoot first ask questions later. When they haydays were here Stan shot first and threw out hefty long term contracts to basically whoever wanted one because times were good and seemed like they were going to last forever. Now the haydays are gone and with it comes the questions.
I don't think Chicago's management thought these days would come so fast but they are now here and it's a mess to sort through.
Like some other posters mentioned, with a flat cap for the foreseeable future, not many teams can take on money without giving money back. Top that with core players who all have NMC's in there contracts, it could be a long grind for this team for a while.

Call me crazy but I don't think seabs will be on the team one way or another. Idk how they're gonna do it but I feel like he's gone. Maybe he develops an allergy to hockey equipment but they're gonna have to get creative. No rebuild is happening til that contract is dealt with. I think Keith can be swayed to a trade also, maybe not til trade deadline. Toews and kane likely staying. Just my gut feeling

Subban sucks. He was only signed to be expansion fodder and serve as backup so the other two can get PT in Rockford.
- Elbows15

Agreed...has never shown he is an NHL goalie...but getting him through waivers is the only way he is expansion fodder...

He was rated more highly and drafted more highly than Commeso.
Time will tell but it shows drafting goalies is far from an exact science.
Hard to argue "quantity over quality" when it comes to Goalie prospects.

Exactly why I didn’t want the Russian in this year’s draft.

I don't understand this way of thinking, many of the prospects will be on ELCs, so what you have $32 mil tied up in 4 players

Hawks had 6 guys on Pronman's list of 155 Best Players under 23.

16) Dach (Elite/High End Bubble)
30) DeBrincat (High End)
55) Boqvist (High End/Very Good Bubble)
117) Reichel (Very Good)
120) Nylander (Very Good)
152) Mitchell (Very Good)

In my mind, it still is a sort of handcuff. 32 mil is big with or without a stagnant cap. Those elc's won't last & some of them end at the same time. Dach & Boq notably. If they progress, as expected. I'm hoping they don't break the bank. Plus, they are spots mixed with known placeholders. That together limits who sees the ice & available spots. Some don't earn it, I agree, & need the time in Rock. We only have 5 mil to fill the last spots & sign Strome. Some aren't happy that we could see all 4 goaltenders this season. It's more big picture, but my 2 cents.

They really aren't in horrible shape Cap-wise and in a "Rebuild" you're not adding big ticket players through FA.

Dach, Boqvist and Kubalik all have their deals ending at the same time. Nearly $14.5M will be off the books either that season or before from Smith, Shaw, deHaan, Saad (from the money retained), Carpenter and Maata...maybe some this season depending on trades.

In two years it's also likely that a number of those placeholders aren't here anymore as some of the Ice Piggies graduate to the NHL. Plus having a couple placeholders vs being forced to play your prospects who may or may not be ready can help keep down the cost on some of those second deals.

I don't disagree that it's somewhat limiting but not as onerous as perhaps some think.

I know money will be freed up as well for expiring contracts. I also know about not being forced to play all prospects, I think I made that point in my post. But we still saw Boq too early, but I think it's only up from here for him. I'm not treating this as do or die, just keeping my eye open to all things. This is my first rebuild that I get to experience & I, personally, am giving Bowman a short leash.

Seems about average - middle of the road - not very “these guys will be Cup contenders”....

Of course, only one man’s opinion.

Who can tell? Not saying they are or aren't but these ratings are pretty fluid and who's to say how some of these players evolve or don't over the next few years?

Last year I believe Pronman was perplexed by the Hawks pick of Dach and felt the pick a reach at 3. At the time, he was one of many who felt Byram or Turcotte would have been a better pick there, though he has them ranked 31st and 89th respectively.
