No one wants him. He cleared waivers twice. - Marwood
He cleared waivers twice after sustaining a season ending concussion. If hypothetically he comes back and puts up 15 goals, you don't think some team would trade for him at the TDL or give him a 1 year contract the following year? |

Ferland isn’t coming back. His agent was pretty direct the other day - CanuckDon
Disagree, I think he was clear Ferland was on the ice and still making up his mind. He may well be done but the only thing clear out of that article was that no decision has been made.

I doubt Sutter is bought out, I think they realize they need that cap for next year. They've also had two of their leadership move out this year and as much as I've slagged on Sutter over the years I think he is well respected in the locker room. - belcherbd
Right now they’re over the cap so somethings gotta give eventually. |

I think must pundits think he's an NHLer at this point based off of his defensive game. The debate is whether he's got top 6 skills/finishing.
Similar to Horvat really. |

They can dress a 19/20 man roster, especially if *Utica is in Vancouver area as rumored.
I think they pay the price to move a contract over the dead weight of the buyout. They already decided to take the full 1.7M in bonuses this year instead of spreading it over 2 years. |

I guess Podz will need some time in the NHL before he'll be able to get a regular shift in the KHL. I would have thought it the other way round.

“For Sutter, this means his cap hit would drop from $4.375 million to $2.042 million next season. The catch is that instead of being done with Sutter’s contract forever after next season, the Canucks would add $1.167 million of dead money on their books for the 2021-22 season — a year in which they need to give big raises to Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes.
But given the options available to the Canucks at this point, buying out Sutter may still be the most palatable.”
—————————————————————-
The only real buyout option is Sutter. If Ferland does go on LTIR you have to be right up against the cap to get the full 3.5 million savings. - Pacificgem
Well they currently have 24mil to sign Petey, Quinn and Demko as of now, obviously more or less money could become available BUT in reality that 1.167 is not that bad opposed to say buying out Loui or Beagle which are both 4 year buy outs. Honestly that Luongo 3mil recapture is such a killer (on top of the obvious brutal contracts)

I didn't hear the radio interview, I thought you were referencing the province one. I do agree he likely bows out at some point but I'm still not confident that it is prior to season starting. We would know if the decision had been made.
I appreciate your magnanimity |

Kucherov barely got any play time in his D+1 season in the KHL as well. Turned out fine. Difference so far is Kuch was able to come over to NA to play his d+2 in the CHL and Podk is still under contract for one final season in the KHL. In fact, Podk has a better ppg in his d+1 season as Kuch. He is getting even less favorable treatment this year than he did last year though. |

In a weird plot twist, it seems like the agent is more interested in the player’s health than the player himself is lol.
I think Benning should approach Ferland and ask him what he’s leaning toward, if he’s leaning toward giving up on returning then great. If he still wants to give it one more shot for some reason, reach a compromise where he returns halfway through the season if he passes all tests and contact in practice. And if he ends up changing his mind by then, and choosing to hang em up at that point, that’s even better.
