I feel like if this was actually true, he'd have been traded already

Honestly, I dont think so. Unless management knew they had a backup plan for moving Strome cant imagine theyd go into next season with Chytil as the #2.

oh I certainly think they'd use the money allotted right now for Strome in different ways

Hey boys, been reading awhile and finally decided to join. Thanks for the content Jan!

Curious why there hasn’t been more talk about Mikael Grandlund as a fit for the Rangers. Finnish player (Kakko mentor?), and salary probably around Stromes figure. Rough past season but solid stats previously in Minn. Face off % a little low for a 2C but he’s a + player in his career (potentially meaningless stat depending what you think).

Looking forward to see what direction the Rangers go! Futures bright regardless, LGR!

If the money is the same, whats the incentive of signing someone a year older than Strome? Just cause hes Finnish is irrelevant, thats not grounds for being a mentor.

Agreed, should have said contingent of trading Strome and getting additional value back. No one here’s is in love with Strome anyway. Prior to this year, Grandlund significantly outperformed Strome every season. We all agree Panarin was a huge part of Stromes strong season. Grandlund career average .65 PPG and 49.3 %FO. Strome .52 and 45.9% (including this season!). I take that chance all day. I also think there’s value in having a fellow countryman on a team for a young player.

Theres no guarantee Granlund and Panarin click... which seems preposterous, but its possible.

I like Strome.
We know what we have in him, no guarantee that Grandlund meshes as well with Panarin.

Fair point. Just kind of surprised to see Granlund mentioned as a bit of a reclamation project after a solid start to his career. Could be huge value there. I don’t see it happening either, just surprised there hasn’t been more discussion around it as a possibility.

Welcome lurker!

The Rangers are looking to upgrade over Strome and become a more physical, harder team to play against. Signing Grandlund doesn't accomplish that objective.

Thanks for welcome! (Lurker, ouch lol). You guys always break news before I could ever find it myself, saves me time and always a few laughs.

I hope what you mentioned comes true. I like Strome too but he’s a stop-gap IMO. Just figured if you could get a 2nd for him (or whatever the compensation would be) and add Grandlund you’re coming out ahead. But appreciate the takes! Can’t wait for some news and an official start date.

if the Rangers could get a 2nd for Strome, guaranteed that would have happened already

that's why they took so long qualifying him, Gorton pretty much admitted they were trying to see what they could get for him

So how does this work? Lets say he goes to arbitration and the Rangers walk away because the award is to high in their mind. Does another team have to sign him for that or can he sign for whatever he wants?

Because if Strome realizes no other team wants him, doesn't that work in the Rangers favor and he should just accept the Rangers offer if its within reason.

if the Rangers walk away Strome becomes a UFA and he can sign with any of the other 30 teams just not the Rangers

But this year this is a new wrinkle. Strome can elect to accept Rangers arb offer ( even if he was awarded a higher $$$ amount ) to avoid becoming a UFA.

If Strome takes the Rangers offer then there’s your Ranger team for the season

The problem with Strome is the whole league knows he’s a 35 point player without Panarin , but because of Panarin he’s gonna get 5 million.

It’s a weird predicament

Makes me wonder if Chytil can get his FO% up a bit how he'd fare playing with Breadman.

Strome's success with Panarin is due in large part because he's a RH shot. If you take a look at the breadman's highlight reel of passes, you see an overwhelming number of them were to RH shooters. I.e. Strome, Zib, Fox, ADA. It's why is like to see Gauthier get a better look with him this year, especially considering they are still in rebuild mode.
