I’d rather have flexibility then a bunch of players tied up long term.
It gives us options. - Pegullaville
The Sabres will be fine cap wise I think ....
Even though people here will not agree ..... the leafs, hawks, bruins, rangers, and etc. always fine way to shed cap space and Contracts. |

Staal walks at the end of the year
if Joker develops as we expect it makes all three of Risto/Montour/Miller expendable.
Both Ullmark and Hutton could be gone next year.
Olofsson is expendable.
|
|
|

Covid obviously plays a big part.
But I love how this team just kicks the can down the road every year.
Next year
Dahlin
Reinhart
Jokiharju
Hall
Staal
Montour
McCabe
Potentially Ullmark and Olofsson again
Lots of raises if things go well.
At least Girgensons is locked up though - sbroads24
C'mon, man. They signed him before arbitration, despite the negativity you threw their way. |

Walking guys straight to UFA used to be unthinkable. We just did it with Montour, now we're giving Ullmark and Sam that option.

You were right on last night. Good call.
His moves are creating a massive mess next summer.
UFA: Hall, Staal, Montour, McCabe, Ullmark?
RFA: Dahlin, Joker, Sam, VO?
Sam and Risto could be entering their final year before UFA. - Lunaion
Covid will still be in play next season. No fans, or very few as well as a flat cap next year with a minimal increase the following year. |
|
|
|
If they go to Arb
▪Reinhart 1 for $5.75m
▪Ullmark 2 for $2.85m
▪Olofsson 2 for $3.25
If they settle before
▪Reinhart 5 for $7.1m
▪Ullmark 3 for $3.25
▪Olofsson 4 for $3.75
I think Ullmark goes to Arb, Sam gets signed before, Olofsson gets signed before. - IonSabres
Little known CBA piece.....they can't elect 2 years on Ullmark, since it would delay his UFA.

It's massive, for sure. All the rules are being broken. Still, the decisions next Summer were massive, and just keep growing.

Sam has another year of RFA.
Can sign him long term next year or move him if he’s not in the long term plans. |

that's a bold statement cotton. - TheHank
It isnt a slight. Hall is a top 20 forward in the league. Eichel higher, top 7, with room to grow. |

So? They got the same result of a 1 year deal.
They continue to fail at getting long term value contracts. |

They have both COVID and the impending expansion draft to consider.
As critical I have been of this organization as of late regarding Quinn > Rossi and how they went about the bottom 6.
The flexibility they have next offseason is not one of my concerns.
Pilut/Bryson potentially make McCabe expendable.
Joker progressing and Borgen make all three of Montour/Risto/Miller expendable.
We may make a move for a goaltender that make both Ullmark and Hutton expendable.
Olofsson could be a cap causality if they keep Hall which at the end of the day isn’t a back breaker.
Cozens can move to the middle after this year allowing Staal to go back to Minny and retire.
Expose Eakin in the expansion draft or keep him for depth down the middle for next year as well.
As long they lock up Dahlin long term you can really just have continuous roster turnover while keeping the core of Eichel, Dahlin, Joker, Cozens, Quinn, Skinner (out of necessity), and possibly Reinhart and not miss a beat. While finding a way to extend Hall as well |

I’d rather have good players locked up long term than have to continually give them raises every other year
They managed to give their 4th line winger 3 years, while their starting goalie is going to arbitration and Reinhart gets 1 year.
They’re terrible at this stuff year over year |

If Hall works out then Reinhart is probably gone. They should be able to get a pretty good return with some younger, cheaper cost controlled talent coming this way.
They're taking a swing here and seeing how this team can do |

Hall is obviously better, but they should keep both.
Don’t swap good players, keep as many as possible |

In a perfect world, Okposo gets yeeted off this team at the end of the year and you can afford both. |

He does, and next year he'll file for arb again, with significantly more leverage. KA's putting himself in bad negotiating positions....in a normal world. I understand things aren't normal right now

There aren't many long term deals around the league. My guess is agents are telling players to wait and see what next season brings. |

Funny how Botts drafting 1000 d-men turns out to be a blessing instead of a curse.
We have Pilut and Bryson whom can play on the cheap starting as soon as this year.
Borgen is the only other mid-round round pick Murray hit on that can provide stable 3rd pair minutes at a cheap cap hit.
Then all of a sudden we have Samuelsson, Johnson, and Laaksonen (who is having a strong start to his season in the Liiga) all in the wings for future years with lots of team control.
They can spend heavily on forwards while having to really only have to give term and money to Dahlin and Joker while having 4 other d-men in value deals that give value. |
