Sam is an RFA next year. Risto would still have another year. So how can that go wrong? How many here want to extend Risto? Likely very few, if we can't trade him it's 5.4M for a UFA upgrade.

I said they could both be in contract years next season, meaning 21/22. It doesn't matter what anyone here thinks of Risto. He's still here and it seems they like him. So, we could very easily be looking at an expensive extension, a deadline deal where we get pennies for him, or him walking as a UFA. The idea of dealing him for value feels very remote at this point.

It’s the exactly the same thing Botterill got roasted for. Punting away tough decisions.

This is exactly why I hate the constant carousel of GM’s. They come in, don’t want to make any brash decisions, and need time to “evaluate” the roster.

They’re putting themselves into a bad spot next year with almost most of the team to re-sign
