I think you see Miller or Montour moved for picks and I believe Okposo disappears into the sunset, he really needs to think about his health, 1 hit away from needing a drool tray. And by the time the season rolls around either Kuemper or Raanta are your 1A or 1B goaltender. - Buff36
I would be really excited for kuemper and feel okay about Raanta |

Raanta has injury risk, but he’s a proven starter.

I’m still looking at Winnipeg as they have a need at RHD.
Calgary still applies as well as they can use another RHD and can take on a little more cap however we would have to take some salary back. - Pegullaville
If we're doing money in/money out, I came up with Lowry, Copp and Brossoit for Miller and Hutton. Picks as necessary. Does that get us anywhere? |

For Copp, absolutely not, as they value him highly. |

Teams with $6+ in cap space:
Flyers, Islanders, Panthers, Bruins
-Bruins have 4 rostered RhD, doesn't seem like a great fit to trade a RhD to
-Isle need to sign RFA's Barzal and Pulock, alot oftheir 9M goes bye bye
-Panther's have space, but 4 Rostered RhD's
-Philly has 4.8 space...could be a target
Teams with $10-15+ in cap space:
Senators, Kings, Devils, Red Wings, Predators, Blue Jackets, Rangers
- Sens are a Internal Budget Team, maybe a target
- Kings have a ton of space, not sure they want a RhD with Doughty at $11m there already..maybe though
- Devils seem like a prime target for sure IMO
- Red Wings seem like a prime target
- Preds are a target
- CBJ doesn't seem to be a fit with their RhD already
- Rags doesn't seem to be a fit with their RhD
If theyre looking to unload a d man to clear space, these could be the places to look. There are a few more teams with around $4m. - jcragcrumple
By my count above, likely 3 maybe 4 trade targets...yes could happen for sure as it only takes 1 team for sure.
Difficulty for me is Detroit and NJD are rebuilding .. does it make sense for rebuilding teams to trade away futures? That said, I could see NJD wanting to take the next step...
It just isn't going to be easy is all. |

The dream of him disappearing will come to fruition if/when his next severe concussion occurs. I see all of these people just predicting he's going to retire because he needs to think about his health.
He's a competitor, and it's not going to happen unless he's forced to quit. - TheSabresTaco
Next season, they may need to force it by sending him down to ride the bus |

Welp, most if not all of the UFA goalies are signed, likely leaves only a trade as the avenue to acquire one...no new news there obviously.
Seems that there was talk with AZ, and it makes sense given their ownership wants to cut $15m from the payroll...coupled with the fact they are already ~$3m over the Cap. The difficulty is the Sabres Cap space will likely be tight as well...therefore, a straight 1 for 1 trade could be a challenge.
After Olofsson is signed, hopefully at $3.5m or less, they would have roughly $2.0m Cap Space once the Bonus Overage at 50% this year is accounted for.
If they did trade Hutton back, they could squeeze in either Kuemper or Raanta...barely.
They could also Buyout Hutton during the second buyout period and save about $1.8m but that would require another move to be made to fit either goalie in.
What's interesting to me in all this...those who have said that;
a) $1.5m Bonus Overage, and
b) the $800k overpayment to Girgensons
will not have an impact on the Sabres ability to sign desired players might have to reconsider that stance...that's an extra $2.3m or $1.5m depending on how they distribute the Bonus Overage.
The savior will be if the Sabres can trade Risto, Monte, or Miller for futures and trade another for a LhD. That is a pretty tough path forward in these economic conditions IMO - IonSabres
It's funny that you've talked yourself into the $800,000 "overpayment" for girgensons is now a fact. 😀
They paid girgensons what they needed to keep him in Buffalo at the time. |

Here is the thing with GIrgs.
If he was a UFA signing, people would be less upset by it.
Girgs is an example of the old guard that is still around that has accomplished nothing.
Keeping him in buffalo may not have been the best thing. |

I know these 3-way trades get dumb, but here's mine
To NJD: Colin Miller
To AZ: Carter Hutton, Buffalo 2021 2nd, AZ 2021 3rd (Currently owned by NJ)
To Buf: Darcy Kuemper |

I disagree. The team is trying to form a new identity. Hard work , grind and play a checking game.
Why get rid of a player that fits the new identity ?
Why replace a player who the coach has coached and fits his style?
They paid girgensons ufa valued money, before the free agent market was set.
Just my opinion

At least that’s my thinking on it.
Not like they didn’t know the bottom was gonna drop out on 4th liners when UFA started.
That’s said I’m over it as Hall came cheaply(he’s gonna take home less money for the 1st time since his rookie deal) and Whipping boy came rather cheap.
There’s still work to do though as I’m not sure this is a playoff team yet.
I’m also not sure just making the playoffs is enough for Eichel. I am of the opinion they need to make it past the 1st rd(a traditional 1st rd).

Almost 500 games in a Sabres uniform - not an impulse buy?
They secured an asset before the market was set.
Hall - impulse buy , yes

They have girgensons projected as a 3rd liner I'm guessing? So ufa 3rd liner , 12 goal scorer. 5th on the team in goals scored, isnt player 14-16 @ forward.
Its outplaying your contract and getting a raise that was deserved territory
Wonder what the 5th leading goal scorer on an nhl team averages in salary? Probably more than 2.2 .
I'm hoping being in the chase (couple games left) keeps eichel around. Probably wishful thinking.
Playoff sweep? Maybe.
You are probably correct, just making it may keep him around another year, but not really satisfy him.

There is honestly a chance that Quinn doesn’t even make the team or is just a depth guy due to his ability to kill penalties.
That is one stacked forward group |

and overpaying for an asset before the market is set is a knee jerk reaction(impulse).

If this was a normal year I’d bet he would be a lock, but with no NHL those 19 year olds who would be in the show (Cozens likely) will be able to play this year in the Worlds. |

Now that olofsson is pretty much done. They have a hard cap of where they are at and now can move around money (Colin miller) and find a trade or 2. |

As much as I agree and think he’s been over hyped since his green mountain glade days. He’s a coaches wet dream, neck down hard work and yes sir kind of player. The Kougar club has claimed him, let us move on to the next issue.
