In this case can you define succeed and deliver? - Takemedrunkimhome
No 1 goal is to make the playoffs, No 2 goal is to go past round 1 in playoffs No 3 goal is to reach the conference final No 4 goal is to reach the finals No 5 goal is to win the cup
To me if CJ achieves No 1, 2 then the team met expectations, anything above that is success |

i brought cannoli's from Termini's (its a big deal)....everything was pretty gross, so i resorted to making roast beef sandwiches on pretzels.....it was a yuuuuge success |

Going past round one means the Habs would be a top 8 team in the league. Hard to say on paper they're a top 8 team so I'd say that's unfair to use as the bar for meeting expectations. If getting to level 3, which would make the Habs a top 4 team in the league, is the bar for success, I think CJ's setup for failure. I'd be really happy if this all played out I'm just not sure how likely it is, a lot of "ifs" would need to come through |

well in that case it wouldn't be failure, he simply "met expectations", a passing grade if you will.
but do they really need to be a "top 8 team" in the league to make the playoffs and win 1 round? |

Depends how you look at it. You can 'James Tanner the Leafs are a top 5 team who missed the playoffs because of luck' it. Or you could 'you are what you are it and in that case the team that wins the Cup is the best and the math breaks down from there.' I fall in the latter group |

I guess I would be part of neither group then, as I don't believe you can measure success based on luck (or lack of), and I don't think you need to be a top 8, since there are upsets every year, and with the parity the talent gap isn't as wide between teams.
speaking of, there's a lot of discussion concerning a "Canadian division" for the regular season games, which could be very competitive if that happens |

I get what you're saying. I guess my argument is simply that the team that wins was the better team when it mattered and I think should be viewed as such |

yeah you're right, I guess it's the "fan bias" kicking in every time I feel the better team lost lol

I am of the opinion that the Habs are more assembled like a playoff team (if they make it of coz) , look at their roster particularly in the back end , typical of STL and TB from the past 2 seasons. They have the pieces and guys with cup experience . My concern is how well CJ changes on the fly and roll his lines during the playoffs which will very well dictate how far they go and of coz how Suzuki and KK progress
