Pretty hard for the Rangers to do it when they dont have the draft picks to do it. Lets face it, Barzal is going to command a salary higher than $6,544,640 a year. Any salary between $6,544,641 and $10,907,735 would require the Rangers to own their own second round pick. Or the Rangers can go full blown stupid and offer him a $11 million dollar deal... - derf8469
yeah, the 2nd rounder being traded already pretty much kills the chance of this even being a thought |

Offer sheets are delicate. I don't think NYR are ready to face the consequences of one. I still think the rangers are a couple years away. The new additions in the offseason are a start. But the team needs to start performing before you do this sort of move. Make sure its the move that puts you over the edge for winning the stanley cup not just an 8th seed in the playoffs. - Tom Dusome
Barzal turned 23 in May. Move would be to lock up a #1 center for 7 years. Zib has 2 years left on bargain deal, but will be 31 when his next contract starts. A Barzal deal would give Rangers insurance. As far as cap space, would have to trade Strome no matter the return. Would need to move Smith with a prospect. Possibly DeAngelo. All in all, not likely. |

8-8.5 per would get it done. Pretty much a win/win for the Rangers. They get Barzal and give up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd...ok. The offer gets matched and the Islanders have to start giving away good pieces for pennies on the dollar to make room.
Psssst still need to sign Pulock too which will probably cost what DeAngelo got. Ladd on LTIR...nah not enough. |

It never works that way. Offer sheets are too disruptive for the offering team

Rangers cant offer in that range, anywhere between 6.5-10.9, because they dont have their 2nd round pick. Barzal wont sign anything less than 6.5 so they'd need to go into the four 1sts compensation range which is not happening. |

the Rangers dont have their second rounder - jimbro83
Ok thanks. Then it would be ALMOST impossible to offer sheet. They would have to get that pick back from Detroit and it would cost probably more than a 2nd of value knowning Stevie Y.
Roomer Stoopid. Over. |

Rangers dont have their 2021 second rounder
so, the offer sheet would need to be 10.9 million a year or more

Pretty far fetched. But possible. Another concern for me would be his durability over time. This kid dazzles, but plays with head-down reckless abandon. He’s gonna get killed out there. |

I can see the following offer sheet
Total Value:$39,250,000
AAV Length Value:5
Offer Sheet AAV:$7,850,000
Compensation
$6,544,641 - $8,726,188
1 First Round Pick
1 Second Round Pick
1 Third Round Pick
Now, they would have to move some money around to make it work with both RFA Strome and Lemieux yet to signed.
It is a bit of a high offer sheet. But I can see Barzal really flying with Kreider or being a solid finisher with Zibanejad. The term will be in the 5 to 7 year range.
They would need to get their 2nd round pick back of course. |

No they're not.
* The Rangers/Islanders Rivalry is one of the most intense in all of sports. If the Rangers make an offer sheet for Barzal they could seriously handcuff the Islanders moving forward...
No it isn't.
Not even top 3 in hockey.
I'll take my ban now. |

Trade Smith, and not signing Strome makes an offer sheet possible, and if a few other moves are made...it could work? |

At least Ek didn't pull this one from hockey hf boards. Now that would be embarrassing. |

Ek's schedule:
- Wakes up at noon.
- Thinks of a crazy rumor (and excellent clickbait) and sends it to himself (source).
- Types it quickly (no time to spell check). Makes sure MTL or TOR is included.
- Finishes with "more to come", so that we come back to his site.
- Relax and wonders how he still has Season Ticket Holders.
- Repeats daily. |

Lol. Good luck!
I’d take the Rangers next four first round draft picks pretty easily, as good as Barzal is. The Rangers aren’t great yet; those picks could be good. - isles10289
May end up costing them Wright. This makes no sense. In order for it to work they'd have to overpay Barzal. Why would you want to give up draft picks and take on a bad contract to do it? Very good player but it's counterproductive.
