I’m with you on that. I would hate to see 3-4 million used on players along those lines when we could’ve applied that to Toews. I get it we need to fill the bottom six but just plug Johnston in there and hope Wahlstrom can slot in on the third line. Always liked Martin but it’s time to move on IMO.

Wahlstrom on the 3rd line is almost a must especially this year with the Cap and being on a line with Pageau can only help.

Really cannot argue with the success of Lou these two years with the Isles. The Leo and Hickey signings were dumb though.
- ses111

I don't mind Hickey as a 7th defenseman. However I don't like his $2.5 pricetag.

We've discussed this before. I like Martin and I think it would be nice if he came back to the organization in some other capacity. He was effective for the Isles years ago, but I think its time to move on.

I think Lou likes him a lot and will re-sign him. I just hope its in the $1 smilll range but I highly doubt it.

Agreed. Hickey is fine as a 7th just not the deal he received.

Yep! Always liked Matt as a person and a player but the current Cap and the Cap in a Covid world changes everything. Cannot imagine the Isles collapsing if Ross has to play on the 4th line.

I agree with most of your post, but in the interest of accuracy........ Hickey was re-signed to his current contract by Lou, not Snow.
- JohnScammo

Thank you for the clarification. I sit corrected on that one.

That could become a nice combination if they are allowed to develop together.

Line could generate some nice offense and will only help the Isles to have a productive 3rd line.

love that fans of teams who were worst in the league last year are chirping Isles contracts... lol.

Lou almost always uses all his time when signing free agents. He did the same thing last year and Staple brought it up over and over again. Some contracts are already done but not processed to protect from another team offer sheeting Barzal and/or Pulock. Yes.. one contract will be moved..eventually. I would rather Leo or Cal instead of Boychuk but I think it will be Johnny b/c they have made it clear to him he will not be in the starting 6 if all are healthy.

ok.. I agree.. but how much is he worth? would 1.5 be a fair number? So we are paying him 800k more than he is worth... now do Mayfield.

Martin and Greene have already agreed to a contract. it will be processed when they are done with Pulock and Barzal. Pulock b/c of his arbitration hearing should be done within a week. I don't expect it to go to Arb.

I really hope they don't re-sign Martin.

too late.. according to Staple's recent story it's already agreed on and done.

If $1.5 would be fair then they are paying him $1,000,000 more than he's worth.

I know Barry did not coach Hickey yet but it seemed clear his time as a regular dman was coming to an end and his best spot was as a 7th. Hickey did not seem like a Lou and Barry type dman. Leo and Hickey should have been offered no more than 2 years. What teams would have been willing to go 4 years?

Be careful MDW. You saw what happened to the last team who took our star center.

I can't believe people were even thinking it was a possibility. I guess it was just something for people to debate during the down time but was not even remotely realistic

Rumors around the Isles are especially off the wall. Sorokin could be a star this year and in the offseason it will be rumors about adding a goalie.

Yeah I had typed 1.5 mill.. maybe 1.7 b/c he was a veteran.. and deleted it and then never corrected my math.

My point is .. Hickey is not a terrible D-man. We have had Waaaaaay worse playing top 4 in recent past on this team. He's fast, can move the puck and actually hits a lot considering his size. If someone gets hurt on our back line I am fine with HIckey playing. Especially with it sounding like we are trading boychuk.

Every team has a few contracts that are terrible. Ladd is a friggin sht show for us but I can see Lou talking him into LTIR b/c of his Knees. The others are players that are on a team that just went to the ECF.
