Yeah I had typed 1.5 mill.. maybe 1.7 b/c he was a veteran.. and deleted it and then never corrected my math.
My point is .. Hickey is not a terrible D-man. We have had Waaaaaay worse playing top 4 in recent past on this team. He's fast, can move the puck and actually hits a lot considering his size. If someone gets hurt on our back line I am fine with HIckey playing. Especially with it sounding like we are trading boychuk.
Every team has a few contracts that are terrible. Ladd is a friggin sht show for us but I can see Lou talking him into LTIR b/c of his Knees. The others are players that are on a team that just went to the ECF. - niteislander
He's not horrible and I'm fine with him as a back up when someone gets banged up. My biggest issue with Hickey is he's too small and gets pushed off the puck. |

When is the last time Hickey has played an NHL game? Also factor in consecutive concussions and I doubt very much he’s the player you remember him being. |

Hickey has heart but I do not remember him being particularly fast. It was an odd signing for sure and Hickey not seem to be a Lou type dman. |

Hickey is not fast. That’s another Islander fan myth. He has his moments but overall he’s slow for a player who is small and you’d expect to have some speed. I certainly don’t hate the guy I think he would be a fine 7th defenseman two seasons ago but not even lameriello thought so due to putting him on waivers. His salary along with not knowing how good he is now makes him VERY expendable. |

Hickey will make a fine player to expose to the expansion draft. |

He must be pretty bad if another team wouldn't even take a chance on him when Lou basically said "we want this (frank)er gone." |

Dude goes all-in betting on himself and the result is "league minimum."
I'm sure his takeaway will be that he's misunderstood. |

The only misunderstanding is the fans that think one day Ho-Sang will get his poop together. |

I aglee With Staple.
Art, Knowing what you know now around the playoff run, the cap situation, current roster etc., would you still make the trade for J-G Pageau and the long-term contract with him? Or would you keep the draft picks, have the extra cap room, but be down a dependable, gritty, team-player center? — Mike D.
Mike, I’d make that deal 10 times out of 10. It was a lot to give up certainly, but the Islanders centers are as good as any team’s now. Even if you subtract Cizikas after this coming season it’s a formidable top three and Pageau becomes even more valuable without Cizikas. Pageau already is the team’s go-to faceoff man, he’ll be the No. 1 PK center and he’ll get more power play time.
No chance you undo that deal. |

The depth Pageau added made us instantly better. Anyone who doesn’t realize that is lost. |

One thing I’m pretty certain of is Barzal being signed and him wanting to sign. - Cptmjl
I have doubts. I think he, and surely many of the fans of this club know that the isles are locked into many long term deals that see guys into their mid-late 30's. Does Barzal want to play here next season? My guess is yes. Does he want to commit himself to 5+ years? I have my doubts. My guess is he inks a 1-2 year deal, and he becomes a massive piece of trade bait if this team doesn't become younger over the next season or two. No saying he leaves this team, but I don't think he is overly eager to ink a long term deal, or surely both sides could have agreed to something by now. |

They have about 30 mill coming off the cap in 2 years. If he signs a 2 year deal that would just b/c he can get a Max deal that summer. You think all our deals are 7 years long? Go back to sleep. |

You guys can Hate on hickey all you want. All I know is he his first goal was in OT.. and he has a bunch in OT since that time. He just has a knack for pinching at the right time and finishing. Like I said.. I would rather he made about $1mill less but I am happy to have him as my 7th D-man. .... He played well in B-port last year until he got his head taken off on a hit.
