How did you discover it wasn't working? - Atomic Wedgie
Thankfully, not by an overflowing toilet.
Our sump pump has a big hole that it sits in, with a cover over it. It's in the one basement room. So if it's not working and you don't notice right away, you look in the room and see a slowly expanding puddle on the floor lol. The water fills the hole and the sump pump doesn't activate for some reason, like the float catching somehow and not raising enough to turn on the pump, or it's full of silt and stuff and isn't pumping properly, and then the water overflows onto the basement floor until you fix the problem.
It's a bit of a pain in the ass and I don't think it was designed all that well, so we've had a few incidents in the last year. I think because we've had a lot of rain lately, there was quite a bit of dirt that got sucked in to the pump from ground water around the foundation and it got clogged.

Reading up on the "features" of the iphone 12...
Less in the box for reduced carbon emissions
Power adapter and EarPods have been removed, but fast-charging USB‑C to Lightning cable is included -- thus helping to shrink packaging, reduce shipments, and eliminate a massive amount of carbon emissions annually
Thankfully I got off the Apple merry go round a few years ago.

Spent quite a bit of time today trying to fix our sump pump. Fun... Got it fixed without having to pay a plumber though! - Thecakeisalie
There is something very satisfying about figuring out stuff like that. I have repaired my washing machine a couple times, and done a number of small plumbing job. The internet is awesome

We have basically the same setup - we built an addition to the house a few years ago.
I had never even seen a sump pump prior to getting one, so I live in constant terror that it won't work when needed.

Yeah that stuff is frightening. We had our main drain clog and create a nice little lake in our basement a few years ago. I am paranoid of it happening again but I don't catch it in time this time!

It's amazing to me that for such an important device, so many builders and homeowners try to go "on the cheap" for a sump pump. The typical sump pump used by builders of new homes and homeowners is about $300 to $500 max. The triple safe sump pump is closer to the $1200 to $1500 range. Has a sump pump, a back up and in case of a power outage a third backup pump that is operated by a heavy duty battery for an additional 10 hours of use.

The best $200 you’ll spend is on a hydraulically driven back up pump. Will run even if your power goes out. Run a water line to it and set the float. Only issue is you need to make sure that it’s not running when not needed.
