It's amazing to me that for such an important device, so many builders and homeowners try to go "on the cheap" for a sump pump. The typical sump pump used by builders of new homes and homeowners is about $300 to $500 max. The triple safe sump pump is closer to the $1200 to $1500 range. Has a sump pump, a back up and in case of a power outage a third backup pump that is operated by a heavy duty battery for an additional 10 hours of use.

Our sump pump is in the cold room under the front porch. In winter, it freezes. Could be trouble, I guess, but in 18 years, the sump pump sink hole has had cup of water in it. I took out the broken builder grade pump 5 or 6 years ago, and haven’t got around to replacing it. We have underground springs in the neighbourhood, but somehow we lucked out. We are on the high point, while our neighbours across the street are at the low point. Their sump pumps run constantly. I should install a new one I guess. |

Like Kerfoot and Nylander for McDavid?
That would make a decent impact. - Woderwick
Much better than the awful Nylander for garbage from Columbus trade in that blog. |

I hopped on board a couple of years back and I can't imagine going back to Android.
Speaking as someone who develops and tests apps on both Android and iOS, the former is a poopshow.
While it may seem absurd, the supposed carbon emissions savings on packaging, it also seems like a strange talking point to re-affirm one's position on Apple. - mjones242
Whatever you use, extending its use and not getting a new model every few years will have a huge environmental. There aren’t many products where we’ve been more sucked into the over consumption cycle. |

This.
I have a 6s that does more than I will ever need. Keep it in a Otter box. Take it out and clean it every couple months. Delete poop that’s not needed. It’s been through hell and back with me.
They sent me a free new one this year. I gave it to my kid because it was like having half a sheet of plywood in my pocket. Hows a guy supposed to work with that? |

Sure, obviously.
But the entire point of my reply was that reducing the environmental impact of phone packaging - even if slightly - is a step in the right direction. Pointing to this particular marketing material as a reason to justify one's choice to stay away from Apple seems pretty cynical to me. 🤷 |

My phone is a Sony, who no longer makes phones, it's 2.5 years old and I plan to keep using it indefinitely |

You could definitely make an argument that not every one needs the latest and greatest phone. Most users don't require the horsepower that some of these newer models boast. A lot of people upgrade for no better reason than as some sort of status symbol. Others have the insatiable desire to always be on the cutting edge for... reasons. The gaming industry is also constantly pushing the technical envelope which requires the latest and greatest hardware to support their apps (though one wonders how much sloppy code is a factor here).
Having said that, my company produces an ERP app that most definitely benefits from as much performance power as you can throw at it. When you're querying and working with large amounts of data, a larger screen size, more memory, and more CPU power is a huge advantage.
Not everyone requires apps that really push the phone's hardware, but we're definitely moving in a direction where the cell phone is replacing desktops and laptops as the primary productivity tool in a user's arsenal.
I usually replace my phone every 3-4 years and I think that's a pretty reasonable life span. I'm amazed at what I used in the past and thought was functionally sound/efficient (my phone needed a tactile keyboard goddamit!) and what I'm using now (facial recognition ftw!).
I guess what I'm saying is: there's a line somewhere between "get off my lawn!" and "yarrrr, I neeeed to upgrade my iPhone 13 to the 14 cuz widgets work slightly cooler, mannnn!)".
Consumers have to be smarter and have the self-control to know when they should consider upgrading. Consumers should also be demanding companies be as green as possible and, if at all possible, be more socially responsible (both in terms of 3rd world labour force and manipulative marketing).
Which is to say: it's Sunday and I'm (frank)ing bored -- sorry for the long-winded diatrbie! |

Remember when the phone was just on the wall and if it rang you could just turn it off and not know who called and they wouldn't know anything. That was awesome. |

People will just buy those items separately, increasing carbon emissions even further. Apple doesn't give a (frank). |

I remember having to go to the bank to fill out a form to withdraw or deposit money. That was poop.
Granted, not all progress is awesome -- I could do without most social media apps which, I believe, is driving mental illness to all-time highs. |

Who the (frank) would buy a power adapter for their phone?
Also, why single out Apple? As if Samsung and other manufacturers aren't following the same song and dance.
At some point we have to blame the (frank)ing consumer for being bumholes who can't control themselves. |

Why? - mjones242
Ok bottom line.
My LG phone does everything I need it to, and everything that anyone I know would need a phone to do.
It came with more memory, and has expandable memory on top of that. It has a bigger screen and is of comparable picture quality. I certainly can't tell the difference. I also can't see any difference in response time. It uses charging cables that are widely available and cheaper, and work with multiple devices. The battery lasts about twice as long as my wife's iphone 10 and the battery hers is still degrading. This has been a constant problem with just about every iPhone ever since my old iPhone5.
As far as your claim about apps and testing, I have never had an issue with any app that I have put on the phone. So, while you may see this stuff, it's real world impact on me since I switched to android 4 years ago, has been exactly zero.
The cost was approx. 1/3. |

I don't give a rats ass about who is doing what.
I found humour in selling less packaging as a feature and providing the reason that they are including less.
Pretty sure if I remove 10 cookies from the bag, they could use less packaging also.
