He will be for sure.

He already is imo.

And that's not a knock on Rielly. At all. Rielly is a great defenseman.

I'm not so much comparing us to them in terms of overall - the Leafs have a better forward group and better goaltending, yes. I was more just saying that I don't mind their D-corps. I think they have potential. If I do compare the D-for-D between us and them, I think Buffalo doesn't compare unfavourably.

Do I think Toronto's is better this year than last year? Yes, I absolutely do. You're including Sandin, though, when I think he is very unlikely to be a part of this year's top-6. So it's a bit unfair to include him in that regard.

I really like Rielly; but let's look at it this way - when Rielly was 19, he had 27 pts in 73 games. Dahlin, when he was 18, had 44pts. In a prorated season, Dahlin was on pace for 56pts last year as a 19 year old. Rielly has eclipsed that mark once - as a 24 year old.

I think Dahlin is significantly better than Rielly. And to repeat - I really like Rielly.

I'd argue rookies were handled differently back then....

19 year olds are getting top offensive opportunities these days.

Rielly had to "learn to play d first" as Babcock put it The poor dude had all the skills in the world but wasn't allowed to play on the PP.

14 kinds of ticks in Nova Scotia but only one “can possibly” carry Lyme disease. Yes it’s the black legged tick. That was the one that bit me 3 days ago.

But... it has to be on you for at least 36 hours before you can get Lyme.
The one that was on me was there less than 6 hours, so I think I’m good.

Remove the tick as close to the skin as possible and cut it in half or flush it.
Wipe the bite with rubbing alcohol and hope.

- .HOHO.

Keep the tick so they can test it if needed.

He was 12. He could have grown up. People do things that they learn from and regret. Especially kids.

Hold him accountable for his actions as an adult, not his actions as a 12 year old.

- Monkeypunk

I guess 12 yr old kids get passes for doing terrible things to other kids that can't defend themselves... Seems right.

They dont get passes.

Mistakes are made every day by children.

Acting out could have been a result of an undiagnosed mental illness or a rough home life. Kids deserve a chance.

I wouldn't mind Risto on the Leafs as a partner for Muzzin, but yeah, he's not a top pairing guy.
- PatC80

I would. I want the Leafs to be better defensively, not worse.

So, the hockey player may have an undiagnosed mental illness. Good to know.

Rielly had to deal with Carlyle, Horachek and Babcock before he was 22.

I'm surprised he hasn't turned into Luke Scheen yet.

Dahlin is really something else.

And yes, it's not so much about Toronto being better or worse, just that Buffalo will be better than last year as well.

I'm telling ya, no team (except Tampa) should feel completely safe in the Atlantic.

Except Detroit and Ottawa who should feel safe about being terrible.

- Scabeh

I'm not worried about Buffalo this year, or Tampa, or Buffalo.

Because they won't be in our division.

Calling another kid the N word, specially one with a disability, is NOT a mistake. It is a bad kid.

What the kid did was not a mistake, it was thought out...

It's not worth arguing, I'll grant! I do recall wanting to pry Miller out Vegas. He certainly played like ass for the Sabres last year. I think at one point we all sort of liked Montour off of the Ducks, too. But he's also been ass for the Sabres.

So. I guess the real question is - how good would Dahlin be if wasn't being all assed up by the Sabres?

- Monkeypunk

I remember people trading Bill Ny for Montour on here and laughing at it.

I think Dahlin is gonna be stupid good but right now he's also a part of their bad defensively. He makes many mistakes. But he's young and learning. He'll only get better.

For the record, he didn't get a pass.

He was tried and convicted in juvenile court.

He was "...sentenced to 25 hours of community service and ordered to write an apology through the court system to Meyer-Crothers, participate in counseling and pay court costs."

Which he did.

Healthy Rielly has done more. But as soon as this coming season I can see Dahlin being better, I agree.

Most likely yes. Probably the biggest bumhole around.

Did he come out and say he's sorry? That he changed?

I honestly know nothing about this story.
