This exactly.
I just have a problem with people making assumptions of a 19 year old for something he did in grade 9.
Its sad. - Santo_44
Well for what it's worth, if I had terrorized a disabled black kid FOR YEARS as a teenager, I would totally expect people to still call me out for it 5 years later.
Because I would feel like I deserve every little bit of it. And more.
But that's just me.

Based on the facts laid out before us, its easy to make assumptions.
We just don't know how hes acted since. |

What does his situation have to do with dipping a sucker in the urinal and giving it to a disabled child. - bixll

"Occurred for various reasons"?
I agree, dont judge him on one stupid douchebag act he did years ago.....but there is no "reason" for what he did. Inexcusable. - Fakepartofme
What he did was very very wrong.
But yes, there usually are psychological issues for why a kid acts out like this. Its not an excuse, its just important to investigate and turn the kid around as soon as possible.
I have no knowledge of this guy so I cant have an opinion. I do think its unfair how so many people are labeling him for what he did in grade 9. |

Agreed.
But i guarantee that if the kid had made amends and has since done a complete 180 and learned from his sh!tty actions, that one is going out of their way to print or tweet about that.
If that occured

I agree - we can't forgive someone for something they did as a teenager. People don't change - ever.
That's why I also believe we should lock up all criminals and throw away the key. You can't reform people, so stop trying. Once a piece of sh!t, always a piece of sh!t. |

Its actually pretty sad
Kids dont deserve to be on the hook for the entire world to see on something that they did for the rest of their life. The kid did his time, suffered the consequences and is now an NHL draftee.

I don't think it's irrelevent.
Because if it was just one very, very mean prank at one time when he was 12.
We wouldn't be talking about this.
But it happened FOR YEARS.
So we are.

I don't know. I don't think it's irrelevant.. Maybe if it was an isolated incident. Over the course of two years, that seems like a pattern to me. |

Frightening article in the Athletic on the financial state of MLB, and the deep cuts they are making.
Here's the doozy:
"The league’s revenues in 2020 were $3 billion and expenses were $6.1 billion, per a league official. Revenues in 2019 totaled $10.7 billion. Had this season been played normally, with fans in the stands, MLB claims it expected $10 billion in revenues and $10.2 billion in expenses — a suggestion that MLB expected to both lose money in 2020, and take in less than it did the year before. Agreed.
I'm sorry if I may sound overly judgemental about this kind of behavior but my brother was bullied quite alot throughout his teenage years, and he wasn't a disabled kid that couldn't defend himself.
Point is, after seeing the kid of impact these actions can have on a person, I'm not one to forgive such actions easily.

One of the things I'm proudest of, is that I stood up for quite a few bullied boys against bumholes. And most often those who did it were big losers themselves - either in sports or school in general. And they often came from troubled homes... |

Calling another kid the N word, specially one with a disability, is NOT a mistake. It is a bad kid.
What the kid did was not a mistake, it was thought out... - bixll
You think a 14 year old boy can put together a well thought out plan or course of action?!
Miller sent out 31 pre-draft letters explaining the situation and apologizing for it. Xavier Gutierrez, Arizona's team president and a member of the NHL's Executive Inclusion Council, deemed him an acceptable draftee.
You know what would be a great story? Mitchell Miller becoming a voice of tolerance and motivational speaker on the subject.
Kids do stupid poop when they're kids. People shouldn't be cancelled or be forced to don a scarlet letter forever for stupid or vile decisions they made as a youth. |
