Terrible take on this team sounds more like an Oilers fan here.
Calgary may lose Bennet to Seattle, Dube is not going anywhere.
Smith signing causing Tre to panic? He was signed after Markstrom...
Guessing you're trolling so not going to bother with anything else, have fun watching your top heavy Oilers... - Nomad2112
Like I said, he's not very good at this.

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. We agree on the points listed. You might want to read my post before you reply in a negative fashion. - DuranDuran
Yeah, I get what you were trying to do, but you just wrote a bunch of hyperbolic nonsense that wasn't even close to what I said.

I am here to talk hockey. If you can't keep up and don't like the cold hard facts than I suggest you check your homer opinions at the door.
I am a Flames fan but because I do not agree with you and your friend suddenly I am a troll. Great conversational skills you have.

I'd love some cold hard facts, but I'm not sure if you know what a fact is. Whatcha got?
Make an argument and back it up. Or just keep doing you. |

I grow tired with your drivel.
If your vagina is Chaffed because I have superior hockey intellect I suggest you look for a cream rather than bring me into your drama.
You are the one that keeps making this about you rather than hockey. |

Hey man, things good down south. Still employed and still alive.
Will be an interesting year in the NHL. I can see a lot more fights if the same teams have to keep playing each other over and over.
We might finally get to see Lucic vs Kassian if there is enough hate. - DuranDuran
Nice to read you being well there! Lets just hope there will be any playground for hockey fights beginning of '21 - we all miss the game... when you come home for Xmas this time, at least you won't have missed any NHL action.
Btw., nice how you "caught" a few ordinaryworld guys here with sarcasm - decent funny read. |

Calling Markstrom a top five goalie is a bit of a stretch. He was great last year, but was pretty mediocre before that. Is he better than Talbot? Maybe? People are down on Talbot, but he really only had one bad year, and he bounced back last year. He was also a top five goalie for a year just a few years ago. What kind of contract would he have now if he was a UFA in 2017? If you compare Talbot's first three years as a starter and Markstrom's, you'd probably pick Talbot. Even if Markstom is better, it's not a significant enough improvement to make much of a difference. Goaltending hasn't been the problem for the past few years.
Not really sure how anyone could make the argument that the Flames made a major upgrade in their bottom six. The third line is staying the same and they added three fringe NHLers that no one else wanted. Call it lateral moves if you want, but I'd much rather have what Rieder brings than putting a guy who can't skate but has a great shot on the fourth line.
And like I said, defence could go either way. We still have no idea what Valimaki will look like in the NHL. He wasn't great his first go around. He can come in as a stud and challenge for the Calder (is he still eligible) or it could take him a few years to figure the NHL out. Is Tanev a better addition than Hamonic was? Maybe? Hamonic sure didn't make the Flames better when they brought him in to be the defensive guy. - Hunkulese
Talbot sh!t the bed in the biggest game of the year, and timely save in game 4 and the Flames are up 3-1. Not saying it was all his fault but he didn’t look very good. Markstrom has been Vancouvers mvp the last 2 years definite upgrade You were the one complaining last year when the Flames signed Talbot, now look at you.
Hamonic is a non factor as he opted out of play for the playoffs, A healthy Tanev>loss of Brodie. Return of Valimaki is just a bonus.
How do you know the 3rd line is staying the same? You got inside information? To say the Flames only signed players no one else wanted is such a d!nkish statement even for you. Simon looks like a steal and Leivo would have been resigned by the Canucks if they would have had cap room.

Well I feel like Tre has done pretty well this off-season. I was hoping for a little more on the right side D and maybe an upgrade on Hanafin but as it sits I don't think we're in trouble on the blue line. It'll be fun to watch Valimaki and It'll be interesting to see how Nesterov and Tanev do.
Markstrom was a good pick up, had to overpay a bit for him but not by that much.
Could have shaken the top six up a bit, and maybe Tre still will but if not I am not worried. Maybe a reshuffling of the lines will help the top line, maybe try Lindholm, Tkachuk, Mangi, as the first line. Then Backs, Gaudreau, Dube, 2nd. Monahan, Bennet, Simon and Ryan, Lucic, Lievo.
No sarcasm here, and just to say sarcasm doesn't always come off as such in writing, especially on a site full of trolls, or bored people at work... whichever of the 2 it is... |

NHL GM's voted Markstrom the the 4th best goalie in the NHL last season...he played for one of the worst defensive teams too. I think there is a good chance it goes well for him in Calgary...Christ Talbot only got 2M less |

Agreed 100%. Goaltending has been absolutely rock solid the last couple years. I have not looked at the stats but I am pretty sure we have been top 5 with the amazing goaltenders which have gone on to have long careers with other teams ie, Karri Ramo, Hiller, and Smith. I am sure that Edmonton re signing Smith made Tre panic and sign Markstrom as after Smith, there was not much on the goaltender market this year.
I agree 100% the defense could go either way. Ras has not shown he is anything more than a 3rd pairing defenseman and Valimaki has yet to show that he is better defensively than Schilington. Losing Hamonic who was Flames best defenseman last year is going to hurt.
I could see Dube and Bennet being put on waivers after the pre season as they will probably lose their spots on the 4th line to the new guys who were brought in. All in all not much of an improvement. - DuranDuran

LOL. This was fun to read through
Flames have definitely addressed some of their issues- they have added some solid depth and stabilized their crease. The only concerns I have, which I am sure others can agree with- The top 6, mainly the top line. They have not been able to get it done the last couple playoffs, and there has not been anything done to address that, unless BT has a trade up his sleeves.

There’s other ways to address the top line. Change it.
Tkachuk, Bennett, Johnny
Dube, Monahan, Lindholm
Mangiapane, Backlund, Levio |

The off season is not over yet and there are still many teams wanting to make changes. The flat cap and lost ticket revenue is a big challenge but I think BT is still very active.

But the additions are so much worse than the new guys.
New guys = AHLers at best. Janks and Reider are potential all-stars. |

Mangia basically upped Backlund+Tkachuk to your new top line, they matched GoalsFor% (57.9) and GoalsFor/60 (3.74) levels of elite lines like Hyman-Matthews-Marner... wouldn't break it. |

That’s what everyone said about the 3m line. Have to change things up to make an educated decision. |
