with kubalik only 6 guys scored over 20 goals and had a higher shooting % then him.
and of the guys that put on more shots on goal then CAT only 6 forwards had a lower shooting %
Mika Z for the ramgers had 1 more shoot on goal but had 23 more goals. Cat should settle in the 30 range. Kubalik is probably more like 25 in a 80 game season. |

With the current roster, if the goaltending sucks, high draft picks the next two years are inevitable. They will not need to move Toews or Kane do get high draft picks. |

Maybe, but to offset your facts...... Kubalik played on the 3rd line a good part of last season. He was not on the PP a good part of last season. So I think his scoring rate this year could be similar to last year.

Other teams will be more defensively aware of Kubalik, will he be able to adjust?

Solid deal
I can’t believe how stacked their young blue line is.
Now you add Toews to Girard, Makar, Graves, and Byram.
Us Hawks fans think we’ve got a nice group of promising young defenseman well just look at the Avs...they’re on another level.
Flyers also have a stacked young blue line. That’s the best way to build the foundation of a young contender IMO, that and finding a franchise 1C. |

I would think to make that big jump and to get those high draft picks an long term impact player they may have to move on from Kane and Toews. That's if it's done this year. Wait too long and that value is gone. Not saying I would do this but seems to be an option and something nobody would even mention before. Funny how that's changed. Otherwise if the core remains it will probably be that much longer to being that dominant team once again....money and everything.
As well I don't believe Colliton is the solution but that's just me. - CanHawk
In normal years yes, but these are not normal years and I just don't see GM's trading high picks and up and coming players for past their prime expensive players. Also as has been said before, the core simply doesn't line up with desired trading partners. They will want to go to cup ready teams drafting low with little cap space even with salary retained lest we get junk back and need to go to bottom tier teams with higher picks and more cap space.
These are the likely real reasons they are not leaving Chicago there's not a very good market for them. |

Colorados defenseman are almost as smurffy:
Girard 170 lbs
Makar 187 pounds
Toews 191 pounds
Hawks have Bovquist listed at 180, Mitchell at 175, Carllsson 190 Keith is the smallest vet at 192.
Regula at 6'4, Vlasic at 6'5, Crevier at 6'8, maybe there is one Charra among them?

This article clears up what Stan's (and Danny Wirtz's) thoughts of where the Hawks are at.

Well, the article is kind of BS. The Rangers did not know they were going to get the 2020 first overall pick when they signed Pannarin. Or maybe they did???? |

We talk about lot about turnovers, but whose giveaways end up in the back of the net?
In the past two seasons, one man stands alone:

I felt like more then once I remember Keith just giving up a play after a give away.

It's also BS because they hadn't won 3 Cups with a core. Other than Lundqvist, who were the stars of that team? Kreider? Zuccarello? Stralman? Boyle? None of those players moved the needle like Toews, Kane, Keith, and to a lesser extent, Seabrook. |

I think what Stan has realized, and Colliton has known is that the "core" never bought into anything that Colliton is trying to implement. The 3 cups under Q entitles them to play the system they want and to play how they want. Remember at the beginning of the year when the core was whining that they were dumping the puck into the offensive zone, and they are a puck control team. Keith saying he plays better because JC put him on the first PP unit Well, when they were winning cups, they were a puck control team. How can they be a puck control team when a completed pass for the defensive to center ice or in center ice (either because the passer can't pass the puck to the receiver's stick or the receiver has hands of granite (Saad), and the puck explodes off his stick for a turnover. Sharp, Hossa, Versteeg, etc, etc, are gone replaced by Kampf, Highmore, Carpenter, etc. With that talent, you better be a dump and chase team.
Amazing that with all the tweaks and practicing about the power play, the players go back to Kane on the half wall having a coffee klatch, as the rest of the players wait for him to make his amazing back door pass for the one timer by Sharp (oh wait he retired). Too bad the rest of the league has seen that movie more than the Guns of Navarone.
Probably JC is ultimately not the coach for this team, but I think he had as much a chance of success as Gaethje had over Khabib.
Getting back to my point, I think Stan said enough, and he is going to try and change the room, why Crow was not resigned, and Saad was traded. 2 less guys to play Elaine Paige's classis "Memory" in the dressing room.
If I was Stan, next move is to give the C to Dach. Tell him it is his team now, lead it. Hawks have done it before anointing a young captain with leadership qualities (Toews) - LAHawk
Great post.
But unless there is a behavior or bad influence issue with #19 I don't see the Hawks stripping the C and giving it to Dach. In the last year of Toews' contract maybe, but not now. Plus he's 32 not the age of Patrick Marleau when the Sharks made that move.
Plus there is this legacy thing - the Hawks want to show they respect the accomplishments of some of the greatest players in the franchise's history. Always better to copy the way the Canadiens, Oilers and a few others do it than be like the Leafs who regularly tossed greats like Dave Keon into the trash bin with an expired sticker stuck to his butt.

Looking at the date stamp of when you joined, welcome aboard as well, CanHawk!
While I don't think Bowman is actively shopping the core, one would think other teams still inquire. In another interview, Bowman did say something to the effect of "I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't at least listen."
That doesn't mean he acts on any trade offers. So he is telling the truth that he's not trading the core. Yet, his dance partners (i.e. other GMs) may still call once in a while.
Likewise, Bowman says he's done with moves this offseason but I'm sure he still gets calls and even makes calls to see what the market is for this or that. |

Theo- It will be interesting to see if your treats feel more or less likely than your tricks. The tricks that could be the hardest to overcome are the ones that have to do with the system and JC's coaching. The vets might not buy into, and we have yet to see if the youngsters can apply and adapt to it. - RaleighHawk
For the treats blog, it's been admittedly tougher to write. There won't be a list of ten like there is for tricks. |

Good morning Theo, nice blog. It’s going to be an interesting season coming up. You would think that there are more trades coming, we shall see. Also, I agree with many posters here that if any of the fantastic four are traded it will be Keith. He has a team friendly contract, his statement of “the NHL is not a development league”, and he still has that compete level and edge to his game. If I’m a contender, I want Keith on my team. - Angotti
Your reasoning for why Keith may be the one in the core to ask out at some point aligns with what I'm thinking, too. I just struggle seeing him and Colliton getting along. |
